A31 Rut???

This is my first year hunting with a bow and I have an A31 tag burning a hole in my pocket. Because of my work schedule I now have the entire month of December off. I was wondering when these deer usually rut? I've been hunting some canyons off of Angeles Crest (west end) and have not seen much activity. Also I was wondering what techniques work best for you guys? Spot & stalk, trails, waterholes, north or south facing slopes? Most of my hunting has been in the Rockies or in the northern Cali zones so I'm just trying to get my bearings in the local hills.
Thanks for any advice and I hope to post my success here by the end of the year.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-07 AT 09:26PM (MST)[p]Thanks Bowunter. Wow, October? I would think it was later. I went out all day today around Vincent Gap and didn't see a thing. Just a couple coyotes.

If I had to choose the best two weeks for that zone, I'd say the last two weeks of October are the prime rut. Just my experience of bow hunting them a lifetime.
