LAST EDITED ON Mar-19-05 AT 11:10PM (MST)[p]anybody fimiliar with this hunt. Are the bulls still rutting at that time on this unit.if anybody has any information that they would be willing to share you can send me a private message.

I hunted this unit with my dad last year. We saw a few small bulls, but it was pretty hard to get anything to bugle. Pretty bad hunt if you ask me, kind of sad for him to waste all his points with out getting a bull.

Ouch!

Not much response, huh. I'm not sure of the mzldr elk season, but I was close to there a couple of years back for mzldr deer the end of Sept/first of Oct. Couldn't sleep at night 'cause of the bulls bugling. We hunted pretty hard and covered alot of country......again not sure of the season, but we saw some pretty good bulls, probably a doz or so 300 to 360 type, couple of whoppers. We were on top of things...like the mountains.

Don't get too bummed. Good luck.

Hello. We were over there about 5 years ago about September 10th. The elk were just beginning to get into things, they would only talk just before dark. The elk really start getting into things about the mid to latter part of September. The muzzy season appears to start on September 28th this year. The peak of the rut will likely be over, but there will still be activity. There are a lot of elk there. The fire has gone through there since the last time I was there, so I don't know how that will have changed things, but it usually helps. Don't get discouraged. The further you get into October, the further north and east the elk move.
