Was wondering if anyone has used this cal. on Elk? If so how did it do. Was considering one for Kentucky whitetail and Idaho Elk.

Use some Nosler Partitions and limit your shots to about 350-375 and you will be just fine. If you can swing the 300 WSM even better, but by no means mandatory.

I just bought one in a Browning Mountain Ti rifle. I'm shooting 140 gr Nosler Accubonds in it. Will use that round for everything, including elk.

I just bought a 270wsm in a Browning White Medalion...shooting nosler partitions. It is a tack driver. I love it .. I will hunt elk with it.. where I hunt there are no shots over 350 yards.

I have a .270 Weatherby Mag that will be my elk rifle if I ever go on another rifle hunt. (Last two elk hunts have been with bow) It will get a chance on a Nevada deer hunt this fall.

I have used the 270 in Idaho for many years and have found that the trajectory of the mid-weights to be quite astounding! Depending on the humidity and wind velocity (in combination with the early morning/late evening barometer readings), the high data paradigm readings came in a little low for my preference. In those cases, I used the 30-06, but in some cases I have not been able to get the 30-06 off my horse in time to shoot. I still believe however, that the 270 and it's 1456 fps. at the normal 92 degree quadrangle is your best bet! Good luck in Idaho - and be careful not to get lost - I got lost in Idaho one year and almost didn't make it out. If they find you frozen to death in that nasty country, it won't matter much whether you were carrying a 270 or 30-06.

The 270 WSM is in my opinion pleanty enough knock down for them Idaho Wapati. It is basically the same round as the 300 WSM little bit smaller piece of lead coming out the other end. Pound for Pound you cannot go wrong with the 270 WSM. All though I reciently purchased the 300 WSM. You will not beat me to the draw this year. I fill lucky.

Thanks for the informative reply GoHuntin. I knew if anyone would be knowledgable about paradigm readings and quadrangles it would be you. As for getting lost in that nasty Idaho country as long as your babysitting me at least I won't be alone.

I agree Elkster either one should be a good choise. As for your quick draw don't shoot me skinning it when it's already on the ground.
