The antlers are gonna be record setting this year in Arizona,They have had the wettest winter, and spring that they have had in the last 20 years.Ya'll can hold me to this one,but I predict that there will be a new world record 'outa there this year, and the premier units like 7,8,9,& 10 will have multiple 400" plus bulls taken! This is a picture that I got today from the fella that I'll be huntin' with - IF I draw my archery tag!!!The draw chances for a non-resident will be the best that you can have this year, after the jumbled-up mess left by the USO lawsuit, and I have a couple of preference points to work in my favor.Come on July 29th!

Geeez! That bull looks fully grown already and it's still May! Where's the rest of the growth going to be, length and mass?

Thanks for sharing the pic!

That there is my dream bull in the making! Those perfect whales tails are what really does it :)

The key is wet and warm. The lack of really cold spring times the last few have been part of the equation as well.

I have another theory, that would be interesting to see if it proved out. When it's really warm and there is enough moisture to grow good feed, the bulls use their horns as a type of radiator to keep cool. The warmer it is the heavier the horns.

Of course that's all speculation, but I'd be interested to see what the average April, May and June temps have been the years the biggest bulls have been taken.

Cheers,
Pete

All that I can say about that bull now is WOW!!! He might be the new world record as long as he keeps growing for the next couple of months.

Wow!,

What unit? I need to apply for AZ before the deadline. My cousins live in Flag and will be my free guides, so all I have to do is draw. I want THAT bull!

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but it is very unlikely that that is this years velvet! How do I know? A bull elk or any other animal has from mid March until the first of September go grow his antlers, give or take two weeks. The antlers are too defined and nearly completed in growth for the year. Yes antlers do grow at an incredible rate on some deer and elk, but to have that much velvet in only 2 months is very unlikely I would like to see how much more developed that bulls antlers are in another month or two. Look at an average bull and see how it's antlers look now, you would barely be able to tell if it was going to be a 6x6 or not. Show me that bull in one month from now!

that was a huge bubble.
like the bubble gum ones you blew when we were young.
they neveless burst, and you were left with a sticky layer of gum on your face.
I thought that was a bunch of bull.

I saw a bull last year in July and again in September that grew another 6 inches in tine length between those two months. If having that much velvet in only 2 months is unlikely, then please explain. Is this picture bogus?

We scout bulls from memorial weekend up to the hunt and I have never seen horn growth like that until mid July to the end of august... I dont beleive its possible to be this year,,, maybe last year towards the end of July.

I've seen somthing similar to that once, Accept he had a lot more horn flap on the end then that one... I don't think that's this years.
