I have an elk permit for Unit 32 in Wyoming. I was going to archery hunt it but I just drew a sheep tag in Idaho and will not have time to get to Wyoming in September. Is the rifle hunt a circus with people on opening day or is it my best chance to fill a tag?

Congrats on the tag. Pine mtn is a good unit. I have seen some really good bulls in this unit. I have never seen anything truly exceptional but thats not to say they aren't there, its just that I have never seen them. The opener of rifle season will be exactly what you would expect. You will see others but they dont have that many tags for that area so it wont be too bad. If you can manage it try the archery hunt. You will have the area largely to yourself, but I can understand you wanting to devote your time to your sheep tag. The only down side I have heard about this unit is that after opening day the elk seem to move into Utah and Colorado. I am not sure if this is actually the case as I have never drawn this tag but that is what I hear from people who have. I have drawn the area 102 deer tag, which covers this area and I saw plenty of nice bulls before the elk season opened and after it closed , during the deer hunt. From what I have seen most people who have this tag hunted the southern side of the unit. Most of the better bulls that I have seen were in the Northern portion. This part of the unit is mainly sage draws that most people dont associate with elk but trust me they are there. Good luck to you and let me know if I can be any more help to you.

Touchbase with BUNKHOLE he hunted it a year or so ago.
I've spent sometime in the unit 32 and have knowledge of it.PM me if you would like.
Congrats on the sheep tag!! Ya lucky dog!! haha

Thanks to all of you I will send some PM's out in the next few days and hope the sheep hunt goes well.

I hunted it a couple of years ago, the rifle hunt there wer'nt too many hunters at Pine. I heard that there were quite a few bowhunters around Pine Mt. If you want a good bull you should spend as much time as possible as you can during the rifle hunt and cover alot of country , which i didnt do , i regret. Big bulls are there , but its not a piece of cake. Send me a private message and i'll help you as much as i can. PS PLEASEDEAR, What is up ,my brotha? My e-mail is still screwed up. Don

Don, if ya still got that video footage I sent ya back on 32, maybe tthrow it in the mail to this kid that has the tag??? I was just over there this wknd... well on the 3-Corners side, scouting Rams and a few Antelope bucks......

Sheep and a great bull tag in one year!! Someone is living right!! haha

Okay I give. I am another rookie unable to figure out how to send a PM. Please educate this virgin. Thanks for the help.

I am praying that I do not draw in Nevada, NM, AZ, or Wy. I am defintiely going to change how I apply next year. I agree I have a good amount of luck in the draws. Moose in Idaho took 3 years, sheep one, and I hope goat next year (yea right).

Thanks for the help. My sheep hunt is becoming totally consuming as the rams have been hard to find. I probably won't get to Wyoming for the archery hunt. I may hit you up right before the elk hunt to nail these areas down.
