Well good news from here in Northeast Oregon. We are still recieving alot of moisture and things are becoming so saturated that is is getting hard to get my truck into alot of places. The grass is extremely tall everwhere in the mt.emily unit, wenaha unit, and starkey unit, others that I havent visited are heppner, ukia, but I imagine they are getting some of this rain. On a recent squirrel hunting trip revealed that a good calf crop had dropped with those little kids runnin everwhere and really growing fast. Havent seen any big bulls yet because I havent started looking but with the mositure at this very crucial time for antler growth. The grass is as tall and green as I have ever seen here in northeast Oregon. Good luck to all that applied here in Oregon and this just might be the year for Oregon to really imrove its quality of bulls. :)

Traks-

We spent the Memorial day weekend in the area just NE of Burns(Malhuer Unit) We came in on the Paulina-Suplee Hwy and went home on Hwy 20. I have never seen that part of the country look a plush and green as it is right now. Even south of Burns looked green. If you make a trip to either Ukiah, Desolation, or Heppner I'd love to hear how those areas are looking. Thanks

I have a friend that scouted the Murderers Creek unit a couple of weeks ago that said the same thing. Lots of green grass, the animals all seems to be in great shape so maybe we will have a great year. Now just waiting for the draw results in hopes of actually getting to hunt!

My hunting partner lives in the Murderers Creek unit, and has basically given up trying to shed hunt for the year because of the TALL grass. Ha say's all the catch basins are filled with water, as well as the creeks.

I wouldn't mind if it dried out a little bit. Been out poking around here in the northern Cascades and getting tired of getting soaked! LOL

Saw this small herd of elk last Saturday, there's three spikes in the bunch. Didn't see any calves, but maybe they were back in the timber with a nursey cow. Haven't seen any branch bulls yet either, but they should be putting on mass growth!

Only about 2 1/2 months until archery season lads!

It snowed here last night in the Mountains!!!(WA) Everything is Super Green!!! I saw one Branched bull last weekend. It look's like a Super year for WA and Oregon!!! Let the countdown begin!!! Good Luck on the Draws!!!

You said it traks! Too bad most my hunting will be out of state this year. Do you stick around La Grande for the summer? The last time I was out I saw 16 branch bulls, the largest already scoring over 270, that was on may 28th. I hope I get some time to tote the bow around here this fall.

I am fighting fire out of the state office in Pendleton. I was gonna work on the ranch, but I decided to rodeo next year. I will have more time to practice steer wrestling if I work only an 8 hour day. I will spend more time in the heppner units and ukia so I will definatly let everyone know how they are doing as well. :)
