I will be going out to Colorado archery elk season this fall with my dad, and we are looking at hunting Unit 81 in the South San Juan Wilderness Area. Right now we are planning on hunting some where south of Platoro Reservoir.
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this area, mainly wondering if the elk populations in that area are good, andhow much pressure it receives. Many people I talk to say that being a wilderness area will give you a better hunt since ATV's won't be running rampant, but is there alot of people like me, trying to get away from them. Also kind or wondering how far in we should plan on packing to have a chance at a productive hunt.
Any imput is much appreciated.
