Arizona Population Management Seasons

Now that the Az deadline has come and gone, I was wondering how many of you guys noticed the few areas that you could put in for and hunt 2 or more species at once. Such as, if you get drawn for Kaibab deer, you can also hunt elk and buffalo. If you get drawn for 2B antelope, you can also hunt September elk.

Did anyone else notice this?

Yeah, it gives preference to those who apply for more species (read: those who put more money into the system).

Plus, it waters down the value of those species specific points you've saved up.

But, hat's off to next years 48 hrs of work for a point program....points for projects (wildlife projects)...great concept.

This is what I mean:

9. Restricted nonpermit tags for these population management
seasons will be available to permit holders in
corresponding big game seasons.

You will not gain or lose bonus points when you apply for,
or participate in, a population management hunt.

Pretty exciting extras. I wonder how many of us knew and kept it all secret from those who didnt read the regs. I did tell a few of our customers......Sharlin

Girl,
Your a lot nicer than I am. I'm as quiet as a mouse when it comes to the draw. Information is there for averybody if they do some research, read and do a little simple math. Best of luck to everyone who applied and I hope us residents don't take it in the shorts this year. Only time will tell.

Limited Opportunity Hunts for elk have been conducted in many of these areas for several years...they've been a bust.

Yes. I figured it may hurt draw odds in a couple of hunts with that option, so picked other units. Really though, it is all a guess.

Before everyone gets excited about Elk on the Kaibab keep in mind that none of the limited opportunity hunters there (12A)last year tagged an Elk. Seems like a good management move by G&F if they really don't want them to let the deer hunters take them. There should be some Buff shot if guys want to shell out the big bucks for a tag and wait by the park fence. There are some disappointed hunters in this state who have built 20+ buff bonus points only to have G&F decide to annihilate the house rock herd.
