I was lucky enought to draw a Goat Rocks Wilderness- GOAT TAG this year. I've hunted elk close to Darling Mtn in the Cowiche Unit but have never hunted in Goat Rocks. Where is the best access for getting into goats for this hunt. I'm on foot. Any information on the area would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

ive done some fly over scouting last year and saw around 80 goats within 1 mile either side ofthe PCT a couple really nice billies.
good access from walupt lake on the west side and there are goats right above the lake most of the time.
congrats
im jealous
good luck

Good access from the eastside up to Conrad Glacier. And goats from there all the way around through Devil's Backbone (the ridge system to the north).

Might also look at approaching from Bear Creek Mountain on the eastside. I've spotted goats from there and it isn't too long of an approach. Should be a fun tag. There are also some goats up on Round mountain that may not get hunted too much, its out of the way. Could be a big billy in there, I really don't know for sure though. Keep us posted.

Squatch,

I do most of my hunting in the Goat Rocks. Send me a PM, I would love to talk to you about the Goats up there. It isn't a matter of finding goats, its picking out the Trophy you want.

Iv'e been putting in for that tag all my life, I am unbelievably green with envey.

If you don't feel like talking, one tip, Heart lake is probably the most popular place for goats but it is definitely not the best place for a Trophy. The ridge above Lost Lake looking into Chimney creek and Coyote creek can be very good.

I would be willing to meet you somewhere and go over some Topos or better yet take you on some scouting hikes.

Thanks for the e-mail. I regularly cruise the mule deer message board but have never posted until now. Thanks so much for the response. I'm from Lynden way over on the west side - 5 mi from the Canadian border. I regularly see goats on my home mtn - Mt. Baker when going for bear. Never in a million yrs did I think I would actually draw this tag.

Kind of a panic feeling when it actually sank in as I'm not familiar with the area at all. I've hunted the other side - near Cowiche and actually saw a really nice billy when scouting for elk last year. It was in that large "bowl" east of Rimrock lake. This is out of the hunting area however.

I would love to go over some topo maps with you or better yet get on the mountain to show me around if you have the time.

Drop me a mail at [email protected]

Thanks
