Montana youth nonresident licenses?

I am 16 and my grandpa and I are planning our annual hunt out west. We went to WY before and are now considering Montana. I couldn't find any information on nonresident youth hunting in MT. What are the age restrictions, license costs, Do I need to be with an adult or what? Are there cheaper NR youth licenses? I only found stuff about combination licenses, but we would only go for mule deer. I appreciate any info you have.

There is not a NR youth license. You can apply for a deer combo or an Elk/Deer Combo. The deadline to apply is rapidly approaching. If you applying for the first time and for deer only you most likely will not draw. The pool of tags available for NR deer only tags is pretty limited. My advice is to start applying and get the Pref. Point.

Actually, I think they created one this year. I don't remember the specifics about them though, as in how many they are giving out...

Here's the application.

Bambi,
Thanks for correcting. I missed that one somehow. I guess the legislature decide to promote hunting among the youth, whether resident or non resident.

I wonder how many tags are available. I pulled up the law and didn't set a total number but left it up to the commission.

Old thread...

I was digging around the other day looking into this for a friend. The F&G has 300 NR youth license available on a first come first serve basis. BUT the youth license can only be bought if an accompanying NR has drawn a general tag, be it deer or elk, or combo. I believe the youth tags were $350ish for a combo elk/deer tag. Can't remember the age though, I think under 18.
