drew this tag second choice, and have only hunted bulls during archery season. whats the best way to get cows in close?

I had my first archery cow tag last year, and had a blast.

I had the most luck either stalking and/or getting in front of moving groups of elk. Usually in the early morning or late evening. Get them coming & going from their feeding/bedding areas.... I had the best luck during a pouring rain one evening, as the weather covered my noise & scent quite well. Excellent stalking conditions! ;-)

Another thing that worked (except I blew a shot...) was posting-up on a trail or likely route in the mid-afternoon. Maybe catch them up early, or making an early move to water. I used a cow call (Hootchie) VERY sparingly here and there, and actually got a lone yearling cow to come-in to check me out...

I also have the 6A archery cow tag this year, but will mainly be 'scouting' during my archery hunt for my boy's junior cow hunt the following month. Should be a fun fall!

Good luck!

Congrats on your hunt . Ya know , this is the year you'll see that 390+ bull come crashing in bow range , give you a nice show , then turn broadside , rake a tree and bugle ...Heck !!!That just got me excited , that would be worth !!!! Have a blast.....NMHUNTNUTT

6A North,South or West I've had a bull tag in 6A North and had cows come to water late afternoon and best opportunities catching them going to bedding area early in the mournings this is also how I arrowed my bull stalking is fun but way too many eyes for me getting to old can't stay in one position too long

i also have a cow tag this year, but it is rifle in 7e october, the last 2 cow tags i have had though i have had 340-370 bulls no more than 50 yards away not knowing i was there! damn having a skin head tag!
