How Big?

My little brother just drew out on an area 380 bull tag in Montana. This is really a once in a lifetime opportunity. He is now trying to decide how big of a bull to hold out for. What do you guys think?
Here is his situation. He is a young lawyer, trying to support his family. He works a lot and feels a great responsibility to spend time with his wife and kids. He does not have a lot of extra cash, and may not have a lot of time. The tag is good for the entire 6 week bow season and also the entire 6 week rifle season. The area is one of the best trophy areas in Montana for elk.
This really is a once in a lifetime tag. I have only known one other person who has ever drawn it, and that was 15 years ago (and everbody I know applies for it every year).
How big of an animal should he hold out for?
My brother will appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks,
Soup

YOU WAIT YOU LOOSE.
but thats not always the case,
it depends on his scouting efforts,
his willingness to go and hunt a little harder than every one eles,
and being in the right place at the right time.
trophys don't always come easy, it like life, you get what you make out of it.
I personaly, if i were as bussy as he is, would slam an arrow or place a bullet into the lungs of the first big, BIG MONSTER
ELK that crosses my path.
once the pressure starts, either the big ones get taken or they run to their safe little hiddy hole, and hold out the season.
thats why they are big.

I've seen quite a few bulls come out of there and on average I would say that they were in the 350-360 class range. I'm not sure what I would do in his place. About every unit in MT holds bulls as big as the elkhorns, just not as many. I think I would hold out for a monster or go home with out. That to me is a 360+ bull.

Good luck to him, I hope he kills a monster.

Congrats to your Brother...Agree with the other posts...Have him hold out if at all possible. My Brother drew this tag 2 years ago and it was the hunt of a lifetime...He ended up arrowing a 365 Bull at 30 yrds.

My $.02....Have your brother go on the Bow hunt. We hunted for 10 days and did not see another hunter. Pressure gets heavier on the rifle hunt.

Be more than happy to share some insights on the area as well. That tag is pure gold...Make sure you go with him and hang on...You will be in elk heaven!!
