I am new to MM yet I have been a loyal reader for over 2 years. My son drew this tag and I sure would like any general information you could give me. I hunted it once on a cow tag yet I want to collect any information I can. This just might be a once in a lifetime draw. Thanks and good luck to all who drew tags.

Might be a once-in-a-lifetime tag?

You kidding me?

With 100-1 odds in many of these early bull units, you better believe it's a once-in-a-lifetime draw!

The number of guys/gals I know that have ever had TWO Arizona early bull elk tags I can count on one hand!

Call G&F in Flagstaff and speak to the Game Specialist. He'll give you some great pointers.

I've got a muzzleloader tag (Sept. 23-30) for the Navajo Army Depot, so I hope archers in 6B and 8 run them in there.

Good luck on your hunt, hope you guys get a monster!

Buck it was good to talk with you on the phone today hope I was able to help out some. As you can see Im not the only one that thinks your son hit the lottery. If you need anything else just ring. Don Martin you in the guard or just get lucky with drawing the tag. A buddy of mine has the early rifle tag in there, and I may go with him, we have hunted it alot over the last few years, and they opened up and area that was until this year closed, for a few, And I believe the new CO up there has removed the Moo's. So you guys should have a great hunt there this year.

Bugler:

I was up there last year with a disabled vet in mid-October. Saw a few bulls, nothing really exciting though.

I know one of the guard supervisors's up there (we hunted him last year on a successful desert bighorn sheep hunt) and I plan to call him and see what he thinks about the odds for seeing a good bull this year.

I've got an archery elk hunt booked through the 20th, so not much time for me to look around before the season starts.

Figure this is my last early bull tag (yep, once-in-a-lifetime) so I want to give it s good shot!

Thanks,

Don Martin

Thanks Don. I appreciate any help at all. I will give that guy a call.
Even at age 21 I agree that it is a once in a lifetime hunt for my son. We just need to do the prep needed for such a hunt.
Thanks also to everyone who have given me info.
Steve

Bugler,

Thanks for your help and I enjoyed talking to you on the phone. With the odds of that draw he did win the lottery. I will talk to you later.
Take care,
