I HAVE A FRIEND WHO KNOWS WERE A 400+ BULL IS, AND CAN GUIDE A PERSON TO IT. HE WANT'S TO KNOW WHAT THE GOING RATE IS ( $ ) FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. NOT TO FIX MEALS , HAVE HORSES ETC.. BUT TO TELL A GUIDE, OR WHAT A PERSON WOULD PAY FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,OR IF THAT'S EVEN SOMETHING SOMEBODY WOULD PAY FOR. THE ELK IS ON PUBLIC LAND AND ON A LIMTITED ENTRY UNIT.

LET ME KNOW

It all depends. There are states that carry large bulls in several units and those that do not. The rarer that bull is in any given area, the more it will be worth to someone.

There are no guarantees that no one else would harvest the bull before hand. Better be careful if you do sell it as a 400+ bull, and it comes up short of 400 inches.

Find out who the statewide tag holders are. They might be willing to shell out.

Some guides charge up to $10,000 I think for trophy bulls like that.

Does your friend guide for a living or just someone who located a nice bull? I'm not passing judgement on your friend by any means....but for those older folks that can remember back....wasn't it nice when hunters used to hunt and help folks for nothing. Money has sure taken over the sport of hunting, IMO. Good luck and hope he gets what he feels he needs.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-05 AT 04:37PM (MST)[p]SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!! When you starting talking about F-word bulls, the sky is the limit....As for myself, If I had the tag I would scrounge up $4000-5000 for a bull like that. If I was the one that knew where he was, I'd show ya for maybe a new pistol or something......And the head, of course.lololol

I wonder how many other local guys know where this bull is, maybe they will all sell it to some guide, LMAO that would be funny as hell to see 8-10 guides and their hunters all chasing around for one bull, and then not being able to find him, He didn't get this big by being easy to find.

$2000, no food no nothin but the expertise an dthe pack out. Heck I know where a 400 inch bull is in AZ 5bn wish I knew someone with the ML tag.

If your friend doesn't have a special use permit for the forset service he better just keep it to himself or he could end up paying more than he charged.

Does your friend have a guide license ? If not wouldn't he be guiding without a license if he accepts any amount of money ?

I dought if he even knows what a 400 bull looks like.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-11-05 AT 05:09AM (MST)[p]its just sad. see a magnificent animal like that, and since its in an area you cant hunt, that bull turns to dollar signs. that is exactly why i'm afraid hunting will be a very differrent sport by the time my 4 year old is old enough. why dont you tell your buddy if he needs money, go get a f#%kin job.

If its a 7X7 on Monroe, I bet I saw him a month ago! I've also heard of a nontypical that easily surpass that score. Personally, I believe a couple of 400 bulls are going to come of the mountain this fall given the exceptional antler growth. In another 10 days, as the elk get rutty, all bets are off regarding finding any given elk because that bull could be anywhere on the mountain. In any event, the odds of other locals/hunters not knowing about isn't very high. In my scouting trips, I've met several hunters who were all over the mountain. Similarly, Doyle Moss is reportedly guiding a few hunters on the Monroe. Hell, I have an archery tag and I'll be looking for him! Would I pay some $ to be lead to a bull like that? Sure, but only after confirming the guy was properly licensed/permitted and doing some reference checking. LET'S SEE THE VIDEO!

NO HE IS NOT THE 7+7 THAT IS ON MONROE THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO FIND WHEN YOU CAN HUNT HIM. MY FRIEND HAS SEEN HIM IN THESE TWO CANYONS FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. HE DOESN'T KNOW IF HE WILL STICK AROUND FOR THE RIFLE HUNT'S. BUT HE FIGURES HE WILL BE AROUND FOR THE BOW HUNT. MY FRIEND IS NOT TRYING TO GET RICH FROM THIS, HE JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE WOULD PAY FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. MY FRIEND AND I ARE OF THE SAME OPP, THAT HUNTING WILL BE A RICH MAN'S SPORT BY THE TIME MT 4YR OLD WILL BE ABLE TO HUNT. WE BOTH HUNT PUBLIC GROUNDS AND PUT IN FOR THE DRAWS, BUT NEVER SEEM TO BE LUCKY TO DRAW OUT. BESIDES HE WOULDN'T CHARGE ANYBODY TO TAKE HIM, TO HUNT HIM. BUT I KNOW FOR MYSELF, IF A GUY WHO I DON'T EVEN KNOW IS GOING TO HELP ME OUT AND SHOW ME WERE A GOOD BULL IS. I DEFINTLY WOULD DO SOMETHING TO SHOW MY APPRIATION. LIKE I SAID BEFORE, HE WAS JUST WANDERING.

I wouldnt pay much if he isnt under the proper rules. I would ask if he wanted to hunt along and do some video taping of the hunt, and if i did kill it i would buy him a real nice gift and dinner and beers for the help. Maybe do something like toss him my Binos or muzzel loader for the help at the end of the hunt if he wasnt acting like a greedy pig the whole time, and became friends with him while we hunted together. But what you are describing is bounty hunting, and it is ruining the sport.

Tell ya what, tell the guy who has the tag that i'll take him to a true 400 bull on monroe for free.

c'ASS

SINCE WHEN DID YOU START GUIDING FOR FREE???

WOULD MY TAG BE INCLUDED FOR FREE ALSO???

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING HOW MANY 400" BULLS YOU GUY'S THINK YOU'VE SEEN IN YOUR DAY???

well i can see by everyone remarks that everyone is pretty much of the same opinion about charging $$$$to tell some one where a trophy is and about what it is doing to are hunting and the future of it.i am of the same opinion.but i no that i am going to rufle a few feathers with what i have to say,but this is what i think...what is the difference in morality when u are talking about a guy charging to show or tell you wher an animal is or a liscenced guid charging u thousands.what?a piece of paper from the state saying u paid for that right.to be morally correct bthe are wrong and are hurting r futre of huntitng.a guide is no better than jon doe.they are feeding off of are sport and are animals.most are not getting rich but make a healthy liveing during hunting season by charging thousands of $ to kill a trophy.they will pay several people to be spotters for them,is this legal?i am sure they dont have spotters permits...i also nothat they use radios to communicate wher the animals are.so clients can go right to them.is this legal? this is a free country but we all need to sitback and think a little bit about what is acceptable and not and what is right or wrong.everything is going to $$$.land owners are charging to hunt there land,no free trespass no more.people are leasing private land to charge thousands to hunt and land owner gets a kickback.it is getting bad and we better be careful.but as for being moral...ther is no dif between jon doe makeing a buck than a guidemaking a buck.ther is absolutly no difference what so ever.maybe not legal for jon doe persay but then again does every one here report to uncle sam about the money from something you sold.last i checked that was illegal.not claiming incom.we are all guilty.so be careful on how we judge before thinging about it.so i say if your buddy feels the need to sell out an animal for a price tell him to go for it.the guide down the road will be charging thousands fr the same.2 wrongs dont make a right but youre buddy has to make his own decision on morality and greed.................happy selling

THANK'S BULLSEYE6 FOR THE THE THOUGHT. THE QUESTION WASN'T TO MAKE EVERYONE MAD. MY FRIEND ISN'T SOME MONEY HUNGRY #%$K. HE ASKED ME TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT IT. MAYBE IT'S MY FAULT NOT POSING THE QUESTION THE RIGHT WAY. BUT I DO APP ALL THE INPUT SO FAR. I REALLY DIDN'T THINK I WOULD GET THAT MUCH OF A RESPONSE
THANKS

BUGLEMN

I think the money figure you are looking for is a couple of thousand, That is what a guide would pay your friend if you could show him the bull, and he was a true 400 + bull

Hey bullseye.. so your saying its ok to break the law...so we dont need a license to hunt anymore??? or a license to guide???? you have got to be kidding me...

elkhorn. i think u missed the whole point of what i was saying.no where did i say that we dont need to buy a lic or that it was ok to break the law.sorry u read it that way.the point i was trying to get across is people bash a guy fr wanting to charge to show or tell some one wher a trophyis and say that is wrong and not right, and its bad for are hunting future.but then we go on to say but its ok if you are a lic.guide. are u kidding me?it is either acceptable or not.just because u have a guide lic.does not in any way make it ok.legal yea, but guide or not this is what is hurting are hunting future.$$$$$$$$ ..and by the way i checked and guess what?it is not illegal for jon doe to accept money for telling or even showing some one where a animal is.but you still have to tell uncle sam of course...would not want to cheat him now whould we.....

Todd Black. I know for a fact you guys paid finder fees on a buck to someone who wasn't a guide last year, and you still couldn't kill it. You better use your "ladder of hunting" to climb off your high horse.

Bullseye6,
I totally agree with you 100%.

The lad found a large bull. Does not have a tag and wants to see if anyone wants the info that he worked his backside off for. For a little compensation, I don't see the problem, Maby for the squemish it should just be a brand new rifle for the info, like a trade so no money changed hands. Please, if you don't want to pay for the info S/U and go to the house. If you want it give the man a little compensation for HIS work that is up to you. But for Gods sake quit whinning!

FEAR NOT FOR I AM WITH YOU! Walk soft and carry a 300 RUM,

Paying some-one to find a buck is different then "guiding" said hunter to the buck(guiding means your trying to harvest this buck), Same is if I told you where a buck was I'm not "guiding" you but I'm telling(spotting) you where he's at, now if I was to guide you to that buck and you shot at the buck and PAID me money or services then I would be breaking the law. That how I see this law.(I mean I "guide" friends to bucks every year in our hunting camp,) so I guess I could be breaking the law each year.
I take kids up for their first deer and I guide them to the deer I'm guilty as charged, wait they didn't pay me so I'm ok. guess all those smiles aren't payment.
All guide use spotters to find animals for them, I guess this is a grey area where is the line and who hasn't crossed it.
(what if you "guide your wife to a animal and then that night you all have a great time after the lights are out(services) I guess you broke the law too. LMAO

you know that is pretty rude...do you know what a 400"+ bull looks like? I have been fortunate enough to take 2...a 407 and a 427. you should learn how to be polite. didnt you parents ever teach you manners?

I get really sick of hearing people talk down other hunters! if a man wants to pay big bucks for huge bucks and bulls than so be it. if you are jelous then i suggest you people get a job and work harder to afford this type of thing.

How about this: You take a "friend" hunting with you. He can help you locate an animal maybe even tell you where one is. Then if you kill something you throw a party back at camp. Each person at the party gets a raffle ticket. The winner gets the "prize" money. I'm certain the "guide" friend will win the raffle. He gets his money and you get your monster elk... ok so it's a stretch. I'm not as well versed as some of you on the subject of guides but I don't se ewhat the big deal is. It's perfectly leagal to take a knowledgeable friend to the lake and have him show you where the "Big One" is and he can also tell you what they are hitting on (AZGFD even posts this on their site) and this isn't called guiding. I'll never use a guide myself but I see nothing outright wrong with the concept.
