North Cache Muzzleloader Elk

My brother drew a North Cache LE elk muzzleloader tag and wondered what the expectations should be for the unit. He want's a bull that is at least 300". Is this what should be expected for the unit or should he have much higher expectations. I know many on this site have seen the 400" bull that came off the unit last year but the muzzleloader hunt follows the rifle hunt and I wonder if the elk will be scattered and much more difficult to find. It will also be towards the end of the rutt. Any thoughts, ideas, pictures, etc. I've scouted a bit for him in the Bubble springs, Bunchgrass, and Blind Hollow areas. Any other suggestions as to where these elk will be after the rifle hunters go through it?

The big bulls should still be with the cows. They will be scattered more and likly be in more remote areas if they have been chased around. It should still be a great hunt, with limited tags. The majority of rifle tags will be filled the first 4-5 days of the hunt. Could tag a 350 plus bull. Realistic expectations 300 class bull. Weather may play a factor on how vocal the elk will be the first week in Oct. Good luck.

I agree with you. I think the majority of the rifle tags will be filled within the first few days, putting less pressure as it gets closer to the muzzleloader date. I think 300 is realistic and the weather will be a big factor as they will be on the tail end of the rutt. Thanks for the information and I'll be sure to post pictures of a monster bull soon.
