Who Has Hunted NM15

I will be hunting the Sept 16-24 archery bull hunt and plan on staying for the whole hunt.

For those of you that have hunted this area, what can I expect as far as morning temps and hunting pressure.

I have pretty much decided on the areas I will hunt in 15B. It looks as though I can get to about any area in this unit fairly quick no matter where I camp. Any recommendations on a camping area that would be outside of the high pressure zones of this unit and one that I can get my trailer into?

Also, I have been told by others that the bulls in this unit tend to go quiet during the second hunt due to the pressure of the first hunt. Is this true?

Thanks for any help

Temperatures can range from low 40's to high 80's. Be prepared for both. Also be prepared for lots of rain.

There are good camp grounds on the Slaughter Mesa road,Fox mountain road,or Armijo springs area. If your going to be closer to Quemado Lake, there are camps sites there also. You can also try Sand flats.

The Elk will not go quiet. They go nocturnal.

Depends on where you hunt. I hunted the first hunt last year. Everybody I seen said that it was early and the Elk was not vocal.

Well I had lots of vocal bulls every day!

If you hunt where everbody else does you might have the same thing. Elk are there but call shy.

Try places that take you away from the pressure.

There are some nice places to camp on FR 97? below Gallo Mtn.
