Who else has downloaded the list 50 times? Anybody catch a tag after the first wave?

A good tag could be posted, bought and removed within 2 minutes so how would 99.999 percent of people know what has been posted. Probably looked 100 times since they went on sale. A waste of time.

Why I asked if anybody pulled off a miracle.

The list is updated every 5 mins ( you can look at the time stamp at the top of the page) I noticed a few buck tags added but gone by the next update. Nothing has been added that I am interested in

Great, now I have to download the list every 5 minutes! Thanx Steve!:-:)D

I've been scanning the list regularly 50+ since the 2nd. Interested in about 5 elk tags/units. Haven't noticed any additions to the list but again I'm just looking at those units.

Keep in mind the only tags added to the list are those that require 5 or less PP or if the next lucky applicant in lines turns it down. You can still pick up some good tags but the chances are far less than last year(less tags, same demand)!

Good point, plus no last minute tags like last year due to tags having to be turned in at least 30 days before start of the season.

>The 30 day rule was in
>effect last year.

You are right. I could have sworn some of the re-issued tags last year popped up days before the season started or even after the season started? Maybe they were those turned in due to death in family or military obligations?

Has anyone actually seen a tag come onto the list so far this year? I've checked it a handfull of times expecting to see some mediocre tag pop up but from what I can tell nothing has came onto the leftover list. Are they really flying off the list that fast?

I saw a tag appear today around lunch time. I believe it was a deer tag (buck). First time I've seen anything that was new.

what do you think the chances are of "Bob" who works at the dow and is going to update the list at say 10am on a wed, Bob calls "Larry" and tells him "hey be ready at 10am for some new tags"

Do you guys think that stuff happens?

Being on the outside looking in, the new system seems like it could be taken advantage of. Hopefully CPW has incorporated internal procedures to prevent staff from benefiting from insider info.

Yes.

hard to say there might be some collusion but there could have been last year too there was no guarantee every turned in tag was on the preview list. I was on the computer all day today for work but had the license list window open and refreshed it every 5 minutes. I saw one buck tag, two antelope tags, and 3 bulls tags added all day. They were all gone by the next update so if you are not watching it like a hawk all day you will miss tags

I pulled a mule deer tag today. I was doing like others. Had list opened and ready. Know that age 7 would be my deer tag and 10 my elk tag. Thus I would skip to those asap.

Deer tag was gone in less than 5 minutes to me.

The one cow elk tag. A good tag lasted 20 min.

I been waiting for pay day hoping the tag i want doesnt sell out first, yesterday they had 56 left today 57 so someone turned 1 in.

Got my father in law and brother in law muzzleloader elk tags today in a decent unit. It is still ridiculous you have to sit on there all day and refresh. If they wanted to alleviate lines and people at offices they could still do the preview list like last year and make it online or phone only. Betting it gets changed again next year.

Watched the list for an elk tag for the last 2 days. Like others said they go extremely fast and if your not watching they are gone by the next update (5 min). I'm guessing I've seen 25-30 elk tags go that way. Also found out that just because you have a tag in the shopping cart on website it isn't yours until you pay for it (lost one yesterday). Eended up with a unit 57 cow tag 2R today for my son......something to cut his teeth on for a first trip west. Thinking of that unit for a 2018 muzzy hunt. Anyone have any tips on the unit.

Yes that happened to me today. Just for the heck of or I kinda kept track of the deer tags. This is from today only

Buck tags today
68 archery
61 rifle second
67 archery
51 third rifle
009 rifle
62 muzzy
53 third rifle
42 muzzy
38 muzzy
27 third rifle
143 late rifle

Well I got the 51 3rd rifle,I think out of not wanting to refresh my screen 1 more time.My eyes went crooked and I thought it was a unit 50,501,511 tag.

Retired?

How soon before someone offers to monitor the site and for a fee notify you when your tag comes up? Or creates an app that does it for you?

I picked up a good 4th season tag yesterday. So far, have two good tags. One elk tag for my buddy and one deer tag for me.

Word is they have had so many complaints about this system that it will be changed next year. I still don't see why they cant do the preview list and Tuesday sales and just make it all online or on the phone that would solve the problem of offices being bombarded which I heard was the reason for the change this year.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-11-17 AT 10:58AM (MST)[p]They are probably going to get complaints with any system. Everyone who didn't get a tag is going to complain about it. This system, while not perfect, seems to give a lot of people multiple opportunities to at least pick up a tag. Even if it is just a decent cow tag.

a few, if your not in a hurry though those 4th season guys have until October to turn their tags in. Wouldn't surprise me if some Gunnison or Eagle County tags are turned in when some guys can't find any bucks they feel are worth 15+ points

>Remember that tags that take more
>than 5 points go to
>next in line not right
>back on list

Unless 5 people decline the tags, then they go to the list.

How many next in line guys do you think would take a returned tag that takes 15+ points with little to no time before season?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-11-17 AT 02:36PM (MST)[p]Issue the tags requiring 5+ points to next in line as currently done. All tags being returned must be returned by say July 15 to receive a refund/points reinstatement. Put out a list with an application deadline of July 31. Have a second drawing on 8/1? Anything left after that, which won't be much, Is first come first served. Or do as other states no returned tags barring a medical emergency period....

I was able to get a buck antelope tag today while working outside on a roof . Your smart phone will work just fine. I was out of service range for most of the day but lucked out after lunch

Steve

Do you think adding tags is a manual or automated process? If it's a manual process i doubt any tags will be added to the left over list after normal government work hours, e.g. weekends. Any thoughts?

Hate it. Let me check in once a week. If my employees ride their f'n phone all day they aren't my employees long! F'n millenials.

I wonder what the preview list did to Colorado's servers Tuesday morning. I bet no one could get any work done for hours. I like this better. No phone system crash, no internet crash.

Since I scored a premium elk tag last week I will let you guys know some tendencies I saw on the system while watching it and refreshing it every 5 minutes for the last two weeks. I was only looking for elk, but I never saw a tag posted before 10 AM. Most of the tags added were from 10 to 11:30. I also never saw a tag added after 3PM. Most of the tags that showed were gone by the next refresh so if you really want a tag you have to check every 5 minute update. I also noticed that tags were added in bundles so to say. I wouldn't notice any on a refresh and then the next one there would be 5 tags on there and sometimes multiples for the same hunt code so it seems they are kinda hoarding them because I do not believe 5 first rifle tags for one unit were all turned in on the same day. It seems they are compiling them and then throwing them on there in chunks.

The best deer tag I saw all week was posted before 10:00 AM.

At least there is a system. I don't have a problem with it, they were upfront with how they would handle from the beginning. Better than AZ IMO, who has been super quiet with you they are re-distributing tags.

>I got a sweet elk tag
>today there were some really
>good ones on the list
>this morning

Just outta curiosity what tag did u end up getting or what was out there? I've looked a few times but not watching all the time

I don't mind the new system , this way at least the top 5 guys who been waiting 5 plus years "I think its 5yrs" get a chance at a tag they been waiting . Hopefully this slows the point creep, Just my thoughts . As far as watching computer every 5 min. " small price to pay if its the unit you have been waiting for" verses years.

It won't have any effect on point creep because the guy who turns his tag in gets his points back and goes right back into the pool. So they are trading 1 for 1 not eliminating anyone from the points pool

Those that turn the tag back in don't get a point for this year, so in effect, you move up a point on those people. Every little bit helps

txhunter58

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

Somewhat, but not as much as people assume. Say you have 2 tags and 8 people put in with 10 points. 2 drew and 6 guys now have 11 points. One guy turns his tag in and gets his 10 points back, one guy accepts it, so now you have 5 guys with 11 points. If those five put it in again those tags will take 11 points to draw so that unit crept a point. And if the 3 guys left with 12 points put again that unit will have gone up another point. So it really isn't helping much.

The positive is now those tags are eating up points. In years past when the tags were turned back no one's points were used on them.

Is it perfect, probably not. But there are a lot more positives here than negatives. These tags were getting turned in and NOBODY was hunting them. Now at least people have a chance to go hunting, the DOW makes more money from the exchange fees, and more people end of using points per the above post.

People get mad when THEY dont get the tags. Its pretty simple really... if you want it bad enough, you can figure out the system and how to pick up tags. Kind of like hunting, the people that want it bad enough are much more likely to be successful.

The negative is the random nature they post the tags and expect us to act like dancein chickens on a hot stove at the carnival!

I danced!! Cow tag popped up in my OTC unit and grabbed it. Then today a buck muzzy popped up where I have my bear tag and I could not hold out for what I was hoping might show up later. Hopefully it was fate as there are a couple bucks that were seen where I have permission for that are dandy's. Just hope they stay put for 3 weeks.

Sorry but the random nature is exactly why the system s good. Seriously no matter the nature they are given out, you will not be happy unless you get a tag. Heck there have been some pretty good tags show up.

I am still hoping for a miracle bull tag to bounce my way.

What exactly do you want to occur DW? What is the perfect system for you? When you tell us that system I am sure that many will also have an issue with it.

Check the list when you get a chance, if a tag pops up you like buy it, if not at least you had a chance.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-16-17 AT 11:14AM (MST)[p]Elks what was wrong with posting the new tags once a week like last year? I picked up a bonus deer tag day one and will at some point pick up a bonus elk tag before season starts like I did last year. My question is why make guys act like dancing chickens? Anybody that actually works for a living can't download the list every 5 minutes. Lonewati, you lucky bastard. Maybe yer lucks finally changein and youll pull that moose tag next spring!

Because every Tuesday they had lines at vendors and they had phone calls ring off the hook and once again the only way you got a tag was being the very first in line be it online or at an office or Walmart etc.

Is it really that hard to look and check the list? I mean, really use your smart phone, pull up the list. Hit the return when ever you have a chance to look. If there is tag, have the purchase page pulled up tab over and buy.... It is just a matter of luck. Some guys have already lucked into 10 point elk tags, I lucked into a buck tag on a break.

I feel the old system was biased to people who worked night shifts and was totally against those who day shifts...

It is not a big deal, when you get a chance look, if your lucky snag a tag.... You of course could always just go hunt high fenced deer in Texas if you do not want a challenge...

Maybe the reason they had so many people trying for the tags every Tuesday was because they held all the returned tags for a given week and made them available on the Tuesday morning. My work puts me at a serious disadvantage to the "randomly" placed returned tags as I also can't view the updated list every 5 minutes (desk computer or cell phone). I wonder if a better system would be for the CPOW to collect all the returned tags for a given day and make them available at one or two pre-selected times the next day instead of holding hunters hostage to their computers form 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. This might also dispel the belief many of us have that a CPOW employee could provide info to a friend regarding when a returned tag will be available.

Just some thoughts.

Somebody got lucky!

Someone is happy today after buying a E-E-001-E1-R Tag. Just logged on and there it was. I already have a tag for bull elk so I was ineligible. That tag drew out at 17 points for residents and 23 points for nonresidents!!

CPAW rules state tags will be added 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, what time did you see this tag on the list? Obviously it one of those tags that disappears by the next 5-minute updated list.

On line sales only, every Tuesday, 9am. Problem solved. How does night shift or day shift affect taking a look once a week at 9am? I'm guessin employers would rather that, than employees lookin at their phone every five minutes. My money says next year they won't be putting them up randomly. How is the current system not biased against someone who works day shift?

What stinks DW is my Cow Tag is a "A" license which prohibits me from getting a great elk tag. But I am fine with getting a Cow and not having to burn the points I have. Same with the Muzzy Buck I got.Which is a very easy on the back hunt. My luck will change for moose because I will put in for Cow with Max points. My odds have to be better for some tasty Moose!!

Then you are discriminating against those who live in rural areas with slow internet. Or the elderly who are not as fast and quick at using the computer... Just quit whining.... Not everyone can be on the net at Tuesday at 9 might be better for you but not for everyone. It is your choice to work a daily shift. I work a daily shift and only get to check 3 times a day. I am not whining...

Maybe you are against retired people who have a great chance to get a tag?

RE: Somebody got lucky!

I was trying to impress that I wasnt on the site refreshing my window every 5 minutes. As soon as I went there and looked at the list, there it was...first time I refreshed...it was gone. Now if I could have purchased it I would have been a nervous wreck trying to get my order in...and from my experience last year, I am just not quick enough on the keyboard!

RE: Somebody got lucky!

Saw that tag today too. Someone should be pumped. I'm sure the list will have some really good tags in the next few weeks. I'm betting a lot of first rifle guys will be dumping some tags if the haven't located a bull they feel is worth their points

RE: Somebody got lucky!

Lots of whiners about everything now days. We even have Nazis openly marching in the streets.

Damn I am still looking for a tag I had assumed that something decent would show up....

But I only get 3 chances a day. More times then not there is a license on the list that was not there earlier.

RE: Somebody got lucky!

If a nonresident turns a tag back in that falls in the points required for the tag to be offered to the next 5 people in line is the tag offered to only nonresidents before it shows up on the list? I assume it would be the same question posed for a resident tag as well?

AND if you drew a second choice tag would you still be notified and given the opportunity to get the premium tag and return the second choice license?

The answer to the later question could have an effect on how I would fill out my future applications. I'm sure this information is available somewhere but I haven't found it so what say all?

Way to add to the discussion .

RE: Somebody got lucky!

I believe the answer to your first 2 questions is yes, if I remember correctly. I dont know about the second choice question but it is a good one.
Saw 3 unit 66 muzzy tags today when I logged on.... they actually lasted 10 minutes!(elk)

I was able to spend a little more time today checking on left over tags. Saw a few decent deer tags and a couple of OK elk tags but not anything great. Maybe in the upcoming weeks we'll see more.

I vote that I like the new 2017 system over last year.
If we are going to reissue at all, this is the way to do it. IMO.
I got exactly what I wanted deer and elk wise in the APRIL Draw..

I did as well tomichi. Maybe next year they can post the new tags at 2am so we can all set our alarms and lose some sleep in addition to our sanity! It'll be fun! Phuckin chickens!

#livelikezac

2 AM would suck..Thats when they throw all the drunks out side to drive..im tied up for those hours....make it 00:30..cup of caffeine..Deer tag on line. Then follow cars works for me!
This will be a lot more revelent to me next year..

I guess everyone at the DOW was watching the eclipse today! My leftover list has not updated since around lunch time and before that I didn't see a single tag go on the list.

I was wondering because a friend turned in a cow tag a week ago and it has not popped up yet. I know they did not do much Monday! So maybe tomorrow!
