Hwy 410

Crunchy,

Most of the elk are up high in the park, and other hidy holes. I live in Enumclaw, and used to hunt the White River drainage.
The Tribes hit it pretty hard in August. Add that to a high cougar population, and it makes a pretty tough hunt. Don't get me wrong, there are elk, just not near as many 15 years ago.
Get as far as you can behind locked gates. The Lost lake area is a good place to hike in and possibly spike camp. Good luck!

Falcon,

Your right. I usually hunt the Hancock Forest side of Hwy 410. It gets a lot less pressure. The bad news is that I have hiked about 100 miles over the last two season and only came face to face with a cow elk. I've seen good bull sign, but the Tribes make it tuff.

Crunchy:

The winters have been mild the last 10 or so years, so pray for a giant snow storm the first week in Nov. The park herd is not what is used to be, but is still sizable with a good bull count. I can't believe the weather patterns. It gotta snow sometime soon around here in Nov!!!! Where do you live?

FALCON,

Puyallup. I cant seem to get a good draw (any draw) on permits, so I have to hunt the same areas everyone else does. I'm hoping this will be the year.
