Great picture.

Nice rack on that bull too. Very symmetrical, nice spread.
Good fronts and excellent rears.

350+

Nice bull! Bet you wished you had your bow in hand along with a hot off the press tag! I would venture a guess of a little better than 350. Somewhere on the line of 360-365. Thanks for the pics though, gets my heart pumping.

TOny is right. THis bull is on the Oquirrh-Stansbury LE Unit in Utah. Im trying to find anyone who has a tag for this unit, so that I could maybe turn them on to this bull......and unlike some people, I wouldnt even charge for the info.

Nice quality pics. 53"-54" mains, very pretty bull. I better go back to sharpening my broadheads.

Those are some great pictures. You've got a really nice camera. I'd guess-timate the bull to be in the @ 345 - 355 range. I'd definately shoot~!

I'M CALLING BULLSHIP ON THE COYOTE CALL!!!

THATS A COW CALL,I CAN SEE IT FROM HERE!!!

YOU'RE OUT HARRASSING IN L.E. UNITS AIN'T YA???

COYOTE CALL MY ARSE,DID YOU PET HIM???

Scott, Great pictures. I bet people saying 355 are really close. Thats just a great bull and its great that he came in that close. You should make a poster out of the 2nd picture. Thanks for sharing.

A shooter would depend on what unit, we wouldn't shoot him on the San Juan. As far as score this is what I figured, I always try to be a bit conservative. Plus pictures are never the best to score an elk from but its good practice.

Thanks for the comments guys! It was great getting as close to this bull as I did.(15-20yrds) I just wish I wouldve had a tag. I may end up guiding a guy with an archery tag in this unit, so hopefully we might see some kill shots of this big boy. As for the score, unfortunately these pictures do make his fronts look a little weak....butit is deceptive. My bull I shot last year had 15 inch brows and 17 inch seconds, and I got a good look at his, and they were better than my bulls. His 3rds, 4ths 5ths, main beams, and spread were greater than my bull too. The only thing my beat him on was mass, and my bull grossed right at 340. Heres the score I came up with. I was also being a bit conservative on the tine length.

G1's-17 (x2=34)
G2's-17 (x2=34)
G3's-12 (x2=24)
G4's-18 (x2=36)
G5's-16 (x2=32)
Main beams--50 (x2=100) (at least...i think they may be closer to 52)
Mass--54 inches total
Spread--44

Total:358

I honestly think this bull will gross over 360...maybe even 365.

That there is my pipe dream bull. Those long mains are exactly the look I'm interested in finding some year when ever I draw!

I think you're off by a few inches on each of the first three there Todd :)

Just over 350 gross.

Cheers,
Pete

Looking at the fronts, I would have to say 345ish.....backs are beautiful but the fronts are a little weak to get to the 350 mark.......shooter none the less......

BUMP!!

Looks like this bull was harvested and scored closer to my original estimations of 380+....I changed my guess later to around 365, but I shouldve stuck with original estimates!! COngrats Jake on a great bull!!!

Wow!
I was way off too!

Congrats to the hunter.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-05 AT 08:35PM (MST)[p]No offense,Not seeing the score of 380 in this bull. I guess I've seen a lot more 380's than I thought.

Mike, this bull was shot and scored. Here is a pic that looks more like a 380 bull (its the same bull pictured above). If the score is correct, alot of us mis judged this bull.

Great pictures! I'm using the second one as wallpaper on my computer at work. I've got an elk hunt coming up in November and I drool over the picture every time I look at my computer.

Well I thought I would post the unofficial measurements which were done by my taxedermist, and then put into the Boon and Crockett website to get an unofficial score. I don't really care about all this scoring debate, all I know is that i had a great time with my dad, and friend, and we took a great bull.

Holy cow! Once again, someone shoots a nice bull and it degenerates into a scoring debate!! My God, did everyone miss out on the part that Tuff found it, posted the photos and helped a fellow MM'er take the damn thing????]

That's what this site is about fer cryin' out loud!

PRed,
Thanks for your post, but I do have to clarify one thing.........I had absolutely NOTHING to do with the harvesting of this bull. The hunter watched and patterned this bull all summer, long before I ever found it. He and I shared a few emails, but that is it. He did all the work and deserves ALL the credit on this bull....he worked hard for this bull, and it paid off. Im just glad I had a chance to see this magnificent animal first hand.

SCOTT

Tuff, I stand corrected, thanks for clarifying. I thought you had pointed him in the right direction.....it still nice to see someone posting a pic and asking if anyone has the tag without asking how much it's worth!

Hedeman,

I have to admit I was a nay-sayer with others. We got a bull very similiar to this elk also. Our bull is right around 360 without getting right down to the nitty gritty. I figured your elk pics and our elk were within 5 points of each other.

After you posted the numbers I can see the difference between the elk. I wanted to ask the numbers, but figured I would not so as not to offend. Everyone these days is Mr. B&C. Maybe rather than telling people they are full of crap ask about it. Maybe we all can learn a little bit.

I also could not believe Predator's friend's bull from last year was 390 something. I even looked at the photo and dug up the measurements from the archives to look. Again, I learned something to better educate myself about scoring. I can now see how and why it scores the way it does.

It is too bad hunting circles are all about 350+ and 180+. If it looks good and you will be happy shoot the damn thing. Piss on score unless it is the new record. It was sure funny how every one I spoke to on the LE this year said, "380+ or I am not shooting." 90% of the people out there could not score an elk on the hoof at 380 if it kicked them in the ass. Me included.

He's a shooter no question about that, Great job getting a bull you worked all summer on, makes for a long hunt.
