Now that the first weekend of the season is over, was anyone lucky enough to harvest a bull? I heard about a 6 by 7 that was killed opening day (score around 320) and saw another 5 point comin down the mountain sunday. Just wonderin if anyone else was lucky like those 2 guys?

I was out Saturday and Sunday and all I came across was 6 cows, 2 spikes and 1 calf. Nothing in shooting range yet but at least I got into elk from the get go.

Still have plenty of time to try getting one in range.

Hunted Saturday and until noon Sunday. My Step Brother shot a cow Saturday on his very first day of hunting in his life(he is 36, but was not lucky enough to have a father to teach him growing up). We called in cows on 5 set ups. There was a bull in the group that my step brother shot his, but he took the first good shot he had. I don't blame him. Any elk is a good elk in your first year of hunting. The next day close to the same spot we got a bull that was with cows already screaming at us. This dude was thrashing everything, sounded like he was tearing trees out of the ground. He was coming in hot, but the wind sucked and at about 75 yards it hit us in the back and they slowly moved off. I am excited for my week off starting the 12th. We have a spot that is loaded with cows and I am hoping the bulls will be all around soon.

hey oregonbone, you see any of those bruisers out there in Mt. emily? I am headed out tomorrow to see if they are callin yet. I hope to get a few good pictures. I would have done more scoutin but I just got back from prineville on a fire.

Good luck!

Sat i was driving I-5 N around Seattle saw a reddish F 350
with some serious bone sticking up out of the bed from one
huge elk rack
must have come from Or cuz Wa isnt open yet
the sword tines were sticking outat least 18" from the rails on the bed and i could see some others as well

any one know anyone who has a newer reddish ford F350???

Not any woppers yet. They were callin pretty good sunday night but werent intertested this morning. Had a spike at 12 yards and a nice 6 point with one horn at 40 yards this past weekend.

Oregonbone- where abouts are your hunting ? I was near Bear valley all weekend and I didn't hear a peep.?

Usually don't hear them till a week before season ends.

oregonbone, I went up this mornin and saw four bulls(actually heard a few more). there was only a couple around 300 but I think that will change after tonight. Good luck and stick a big one, I will keep an eye out for ya and let ya know if there is soemthing worth chasing over here!

went up monday night, saw 3 bulls. One 6 point probably in the 305-315 range, 1 raghorn, and 1 nice 5 point. they werent real talkative and probably wont be for a few more days, maybe even a week or so. Around the Pendleton/meacham area it is usually a rule of thumb that the last week is the best. As far as rutting activity. Will heading up soon again to get pictures!

Traks- Since this would be my first elk bow kill I wouldn't hestitate to put an arrow into a 315+ bull.

But for now I have to concentrate on getting 30 yards from a speed goat (first time trying for one of those).

Someone I know said he heard buging up near King Mtn but he didnt know if it was legit or another hunter.

My best friend and hunting partner killed a small 6pt Monday evening in the Northside unit. Called me today and said the bulls were quite vocal this morning. I'm leaving Friday after work for Grant County.

Last Saturday I called in a nice 5x6 to less then 20 yards, but never presented me a shot, this was in the Mt Hood National Forest. Starting to find quite afew rubs and wallows.

TreeKiller- That's good news that the bulls are starting to get noisy. I am headed out to (unknown)to try to decoy in a antelope buck but if that doesnt pan out I will shift gears into hunting for my bull.

Hunting alone this time, my cheesy nephew would rather attend the county fair.

Did you cow call the 5 x6 in ? I remember the first bull I was able to call to me it was a nice 5x5.

Good Luck this weekend.

Hawk...I gave a couple cow calls and he was coming in fast, didn't have time for a better ambush. He bugled twice and was on top of me in a hurry.

I had him quartering away at 34 yards, but that's too far for me and my recurve so I passed up the shot! :(

Good luck on your pronghorn and elk hunts!

Here's a pic of my buddy's bull

You and Darin are gonna have to let me tag along with you both. You two always kill elk, I see elk get into them sometimes but have yet to seal the deal.

Heard bulls the past few days but havent seen them, been into the cows and even had a few cows in view today but no shot. They were 50+ yards out crossing a meadow.

I gotta do the county fair thing with the kiddies tomorrow but I am gonna head back for a day hunt Sunday.

No luck on the goats, I could never get close enough to decoy them or I just do not know what I am doing.

Those be in your honey hole? Chased a big bull around this morning but could never catch up to him and his cows. Thought today might of been alittle better then what it was because of the weather we had last night. Not much talk this morning. We might head that way tomarrow sometime.

The cold front that moved in Saturday should get things moving around. I have a few more weekends to make it happen.

Oregonbone, I hiked all over my "honeyhole" and There are some dandy bulls if you are lookin for something in the 300-315 range. I havent seen anything bigger but have only been a few times. I am headed up that way tomorrow mornin, I may hike into the saddle and see whats going on up there. Good luck and I might see ya up there. Oh, they still arent talken a ton but I called in a nice 5 point last week. They should really kick in anytime.
