My goal is to find a LRF that will be useful for both archery and rifle. I have used the Bushnell YP Sport, but it is low-end and doesn't perform well enough to suit my longer range need.

Because cost is a concern for me, I am considering both the Bushnell YP 1000 and the Nikon 800.

Do any of you own or use either of these LRFs? What has been your experience, good or bad?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Aaron,
I take it that LRF is short for Lazer Range Finder, right?

I have a 800 yard Bushnell and it works but it is sensitive at long distances. Does'nt work very good in snow on sunny days or with a lot of light in back ground.

Need a good solid object to get a reading. Hopefully will change out to a Leica 900 this coming year sometime.

hey brian,

thanks for the response. i went to the local sporting goods store at lunchtime and made the through-the-eye comparison...guess what, i threw in the leica 900 for a top-end comparison and i ended up buying it! it was the camo version on close-out for $375, so i figured i would be an idiot if i spent $340 on the Nikon (which, by the way was better than the Bushnell).

now if i can just figure out how to tell my wife i blew the budget...;-)

Sounds like a good buy, just looked in the Christmas Cat. of Cabela's and the Green 900 Leica is $439.99.

Tell your wife it is all my fault, too much wine. LOL

Brian

yeah, but at least there isn't a fourth kid on the way because of that wine ;-)

btw, Happy New Year! and i hope to see you out here for a cow elk hunt in a few weeks...

Aaron,
Was that Leica 900 Camo the last one they had in stock there?? Will have to make that drive again soon and might be worth it to bring something else home besides meat. LOL

Brian

Brian,

actually that was the last 900 they had, BUT they have the 1200's on close-out at $447 right now if you want me to pick one up for you just wire me the money!
