LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-05 AT 10:42AM (MST)[p]Welcome Ryan, Good to see a nice guy from realtree venturing out west. I'm a Utah man myself, but I'm sure there are some here with knowledge of your area. Good luck. If you are looking for general elk tips as well, this is a good place to ask.

If your looking for specifics to that area, ignore the rest of this post, if your looking to info about hunting elk, read on for my opinion.

I don't know what else you've hunted, but you will likely want to hunt elk more aggressively than you would other game. You don't want to sound like a train going through the timber, but they will tolerate more noise than deer. In fact if you are calling and moving, they will expect some noise. Be prepared for a real rush in close encounter situations. Be prepared to cover alot of country. If there are open areas, do alot of glassing. Don't be afraid to hunt during the day. They are generally more vocal in the morning and evening, but are often up and about in the late morning and early afternoon. Anytime of day is good to hunt elk!

I'm guessing the elk will still be in high elevations next week.
What unit exactly?

Just keep breathing! and walking. and glassing everything. Find them and then develop your game plan.
