I am trying to get some ideas on head and ear positions for my mount. I dropped the antlers off at the taxidermist today...need to decide quick!!

If you have pictures or the abilities to photo an Elk mount, please post them!!

Thanks!!!

I'd like to see too but no rush. I'm not gonna shoot mine for a few weeks. I'm optimistic the Valle Vidal will give me a chance.

I don't have a pic up yet of my bull, but here is one that my partner did himself.

No Gut's...No Story!!!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-14-05 AT 02:32PM (MST)[p]Is the head turned at a 45? My taxidermist tells me there is a fairly new form out that is at a 45 and looks pretty good.

Tell your partner nice work!!

Here's mine...sorry about the pic, it's kinda old. This is a 90-degree head turn to save space...

Elmer, thats one fine looking elk. I would be darn proud to have a big boy like that hanging in my house.

Here's one that becauase I have only one spot in the house that has a 9' ceiling my taxi came up with this, I live in an older house and the ceilings are 8'

HOLY CRAP, littlefoot!!!! Would you be so kind as to post pics of the rest of your trophy room? :)

That's what I was thinking too!!

I am trying to decide what to do with the ears.....I may take my taxidermists advise and do one ear slightly back and one forward........hmmmmm........decisions....decisions........

LOve the open mouth mounts ! Littlefoot love the abundence of mounts on the walls! Would love to see um someday!!>>>>>>>>>>SHARLIN

hey I'm glad to hear someone got one ! Don't be in a hurry to decide, you really don't have to decide till the tanning is done. a taxidermist can't really order a form till he knows the final mesurement(after tanning). also if your taxidermist is pretty experinced... trust his or her jugdement they have mounted alot of animals and probably have a good feeling about your horns and what would look the best... also tell him the room he's going in , what other mounts are in the room , ect...after all its art and a memory of a life time. I hope this helps. good luck the rest of the year. jakstr

Thanks for the info...but I am in a bit of a hurry. This is for last years elk. The hide is tanned and back at the taxidermist. He can't order the form until I tell him what I want. So...I am starting to lean toward a straight pose with a slight right turn, one ear forward, one ear slightly back (semi-alert). I want as much of a natural position as possible. My wife has finally given up and had turned the front room over to me. My bull is going to be the main focus of the room. The only mounts in it so far will be the bull and my speed goat for now (Coues hunt in November!!).

What is making it hard to decide is my bull was bugling when I released the arrow, and as he just finished the last note.............the arrow passed through. Because of the size of his rack, I can't do a straight bugle mount, it would have to be turned 90 which I am not a big fan of since it limits where the bull can be put later (we plan on moving at some point).
