First of all no I didnt shoot and 8 x 8 Bull, but yesterday while at a local rifle range I ran into someone that did. To bolster his claim he had pictures to prove it, and trust me it was a dandy of a bull. The problem is that I dont necessarily believe the locatioin that he shot the bull is correct. The claim is that he never hunts elk in Washington State (wonder why), and last year (2004) was the exception. He bought a license on the last day of Westside Elk season and went hunting. As luck would have it he ran into this monster and drilled it. What are the odds of that. The problem with the story is that the area he shot the bull was supposed to be an any bull unit, and I was told it was Snoqualmie. If I remember correctly that unit is 3 point or better. Well go figure either way, there are some BIG elk here in our state, if you get lucky.

I"ve seen several big bulls in the Sno unit, they are VERY few and far between, but thats what keeps them alive....well, that and the brush.

Anything is possible. I've been bowhunting elk very hard for about 5 years now and have yet to connect. I've had real close encounters with a few big bulls. I know several people that have gone out their first year bowhunting and drilled big mature 6 points.

Anyhow, yeah, its possible in Snoqualmie and probably just about anywhere else in the state, just very rare.

Hornseeker,

I feel your pain. I hunt the same general area as well, and have yet dropped the hammer. I have seen a couple of decent elk, but nothing that big. I'm hoping this will be my year. Isnt that unit 3 point or better?

Now that is a nice bull. Special permit bull? What year? I thought the eastside was spike only. Either way nice bull. I wish I could get that lucky. I tell myself that I would rather have a yonger bull for the more "tender" meat, but we know thats a load of b.s.

I've got pics of a muzzleloader bull killed a few years ago in one of the puget sound units that went in the 360's. It was a straight 6x6, one of the most beautiful bulls I've seen. They are around here but tough to find.

Crunchy,
This bull was taken in 1943 by my wife's great grandpa and given to me last year. it now hangs on my wall until I get it mounted.

AndymanSavage,

Very nice... I think that this year will be my hardest work Ive put into elk hunting. Although I have spent many days hunting, the bigest elk Ive seen was a 5x5. It was a very nice elk with 5 cows. Too bad it was 4 weeks till elk season started.
