Sure, get us hooked before his computer is fixed.

The San Juan area is near Monticello in the south East corner of Utah.

Now see I should of known that considering I was born and raised just an hour or two from Monticello-I just never hunted over there and have only driven through it a few times.

What a great story. I like the fact that its getting doled out a bit at a time. BB has quite a bit more patience than I will ever have. I would have fallen out of the treestand with a heart attack by the second day. Great observation, details. other wildlidfe. If you guys haven't read this.....you're really missing out.

What a great read. It sure makes one fel like you are right there in the action.
We are now down to the afternoon of the last day.

Its over! I got so rapped up in that story that I got the same gut wrenching "its all over" feeling that I get after I finish a great hunt.

Somebody on here that knows "BB", go shake his hand, give him a big hug, or something, and thank him for all of us that enjoyed be able to hunt with him vicariously. That was fantastic.

An awesome read! The last day was the best, I could feel my heart speed up when I was reading it. We've all probably been there, last day, hunted hard, the clock is ticking, trying to find a shooter.
Thank you BB!!!

Yep, he's a hell of a man and a great story teller! I am looking forward to my next hunt with him, and I'll shake his hand, bear hug him, whatever it takes to show gratitude for such an incredible post!!

A True Sportsman,Who had a great hunt, Thank for sharing it with so many of us. The photo story was top of the line, AWESOME storytelling at it best.

Hey,
Does anyone know BB, I was the one spotting elk the night before the rifle season, I was just wondering if he really didn't shoot, because I seen him walk in 10 minutes before dark and waited for him to come out but he never came out, we found a dead elk in the area that had an arrow in him, so if he did shoot we found his bull, but if he didn't shoot then I guess it is someone elses bull, anyway we turned the bull in to the DWR. I am assuming it was his because it was his last night and10 minutes before dark, we found the bull monday and it didn't seem like he was dead very long, smelt bad, bud predators hadn't made it yet. Anyway, to bad he didn't get anything.

about a 330 bull, There were people on four wheelers in the area as well, I don't know if they had tags, but it is a waste of a bull, I know of 3 elk found with arrows in them. The archers sure kill alot of elk but end up with nothing at the end of the season. Wish BB would have had a great bull to show off, I know he had a good hunt though. But the hunt goes down hill from here, the change of management is going to mess the hunt up big time, we wont see the 400 class bulls anymore, maybe one more year and then it is going to a challenge to get a 350. I wish people would fight to keep the management plan to 7 and 8 year old bulls and not let it go to th 5 and 6 year old bulls. The san juan unit might have some bulls, but there is no cows, the herd is going down hill fast, ask any of the locals, and any of the outfitters that are down there.

Hi there,

My name is Cody A. I am bb's son and just to clarify the story of my dads hunt and the above post of him hitting a bull and not recovering it, I can assure you that was not the case!!! I am sad that a bull like that was wasted and it is true that animals are hit and lost not only with a bow but all weapons. For you to say that archery hunters are out there shooting bulls and loosing them is a sick statement in itself. The last night if it was you that we walked by with the 2 girls and 2 guys we called in a small bull right at dark and he choose to pass on him. We then sat down in the dark for no more then twenty min. to enjoy the sounds of the San Juan and to take in the closing of a once in a lifetime hunt for my dad. I am his son but he is a true sportsman and he always goes far and above everything possible to show others and the country and the animlas it holds the outmost respect. Once again I was there in person and can assure all of you that was not the case and I am sorry and sickend that someone would accuse another hunter let alone my dad without knowing. If it was you I hope the lady that had the tag did well and had a successful hunt. Best of luck to you all.

shoot straight and have fun!!!

Cody

To clarify, I didn't state that your dad shot the bull, I said I assumed that he shot the bull since he was the archery hunter in the area, I was wanting to get a hold of him to see if he had shot a bull to let him know that it was found incase he wanted the bull. This message was never meant to make people think bad about your dad, again I was trying to locate him to see if he had, so he can have a bull, I didn't want the bull to waste anymore than it had, and if he wanted the bull I could have let him know where it was. But he didn't shoot so we dont need to worry about it. Again sorry your dad didn't get an elk.

Cody,
You and your Dad are first rate people. I really enjoyed the time he spent with me teaching me how to sharpen Snuffers and hearing stories of hunts gone by.
Looking forward to having the opportunity to sit a tree stand with you and your dad sometime.
Your friend,
Alan Pringle

If I remember right, I think Bill said he ran into like 10 of the San Juan bow tag holders in that one little area over the hunt, so it could have been anyone.

Good to hear from ya on here Cody,

Ernie

That was one heck of an adventure. When me and my buddies talk of past experiences more times than not they are of the close encounters. The times we get to watch bulls wallow or tear trees up. BB experienced more of those events in three weeks than I am likely to in a lifetime.

thanks guys,

it was an amazing hunt!!! I have never seen anything like it before. The last few days I was down there was almost like a dream. My dad gave it all he had and ended up not taking a bull. He could of shot several large bulls but he wanted a bull of a lifetime and to make it even tougher he wanted us to enjoy the experince as much as possible, thus he passed on several bulls that were very nice in hopes of getting us in on the action! I told him that the only mistake he made was passing on the bull in the wallow. What a huge bull!!! He truley enjoyed his hunt even when it was all said and done and he did not get to tag a bull. He is a heck of hunter and a much better dad, Bowhunting is all about the experince not the kill and his San Juan hunt was the best bowhunt I think he has ever had!!! I love you dad!!
