OTC Utah rifle elk hunts

I think I know the answer to this but I had a friend who was been to Utah and would like to find an OTC rifle bull tag and pack. Realistically are there decent hunts in Utah like this.

What are these hunts like? Are all the elk on private land? Are the elk very few and far between?

Not looking for spots just general statements and starting points for research, I suspect there are far better OTC options in ID, WY(lefotver tags), & CO. Also I prefer to bowhunt if that matters.

I suspect these hunts are very very tough with very low success rates.

Thanks

Utah's archery elk hunts are over the counter and they do have tags left. the only problem is the general season is over but you can still hunt the extended areas. there are 5 of them throughout the state that have additional weeks you can hunt. But as you said they are tough to hunt.

LOL not everyone bow hunts.

OTC Rifle Elk is comming up. Most of Utah is Spike Only for OTC but they have open bull areas (any bull) for the Uinta Mts areas. Check out the Division maps to see the areas in detail. A

I usually bowhunt (muzzy this year) and my friend is looking at these hunts for rifle, me for bow.

Can one actually expect to find elk? I would think that with so few LE tags everyone who did not draw would pound the OTC areas?
