Az. early rifle bulls......

Hopefully a few on here were lucky enough to draw an early rifle bull tag. There should be more huge bulls coming out especially in unit 10. Meantobbuck's son has a early rifle hunt in 6B the only one on this site I know with a tag. Don has a client with a tag hopefully he'll bring us back some pics of a good bull. The archery hunters did pretty good this year including me and my bro. I'll be in 6B this evening scouting for a friends turkey hunt and see if I can hear some screaming. If the elk are still talking some real hogs will be brought in.

Just got back from scouting 6B turkey and didn't hear one elk bugle. I don't know what the heck is going on over there, I used to hear tons of bulls in there. I guess we'll know for sure how the rifle hunt is when they return. Saw a camp with a nice 340-350 bull though.

Mike,
My friend had a 6b archery bull tag, and it was real quiet out there in the mornings and evenings.
Hope you saw some turkeys or sign.

I got a tag, and finally got to go out this morning. I have a hotel that I'm staying at right now.
Anyway, both bulls were over 350. One was only 100 yards away, bugling and raking his horns on a little tree.
This morning was the only time I got to go, as I have to get back to Phoenix Monday morning. Sure wish I had more time, but other things are more important than an elk tag.
Oh well, will probably get drawn again next year.
Benny Hanna helped me yesterday, and recommend him on any elk hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-05 AT 09:23PM (MST)[p]shedreg do you mean to tell us that you drew an early rifle bull tag and only hunted one day work is more important!did you get one?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-05 AT 07:04AM (MST)[p]My son took a 6X6 probably would score 290 - 300. He passed on two 6x6s on opening day and had a shot at a 370 bull opening morning. He was running in high gear to be able to get a shot. That and the excitement of the big bull, the first he has ever shot at caused him to maybe shoot in front of him.
On the second day he had to sprint to to get into position again to see a herd of cows and one bull following running through the trees. Dan picked out a 10 foot clearing and when the bull entered he shot and piled him up with a shot in the neck. I am so proud of him. To me a big part of hunting is family tradition and his grandfather was there to enjoy the hunt as well.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. I have a village to thank for my son's first bull elk. From MM: Mtn. Memories, Maverickcurs, Bugler, Mike111. Thanks guys. Your information was right on and certainly gave me places to start.
I also would like to thank two hunters that are great buddies, Lonnie Shields and Tom Franklin. Tom is not only a good friend but a guide as well. Their expertise was very valuable.
I will post pictures soon of Dan's first bull. Not the 370 plus but a good bull just the same.
Dan said tonight he is ready to go again to get a bigger bull! I now know I have a true elk hunter that has it not only in his blood but in his heart.

The bulls were bugling an hour and a half to two hours after sunrise. They would go until about noon. At night they were pretty quiet until about a half hour past darkness and then they would start again. Wednesday night when I was scouting for my son I got into a big heard with bunches of satelites and one big bull in the middle with the huge one still in the trees. It was a frenzy big time. Nothing like a rut hunt.

I had a 6b tag! I should of took more time off work but really need to get lot of things done before I go out and play with the Elk. Ran in to a guy who was looking for broken tines from all the busted up Bulls. I don't understand why anyone would look for broken antlers. He did't even have an elk tag. Seems like the archery hunters missed out on a good herd of elk in the unit, they were not to spooked and having fun in a couple of water holes.

It was a blast! A once in a lifetime experience that I will cherish for the rest of my days.
I don't want to be greedy but I hope one of us gets drawn on early bull again.
Now I have to get ready for my dad's hunt (cow in 7 west).
