Well I dont know about you guys but I would love to see the opener of the B zone in Northern Cal pushed back a couple weeks or so.It seems every year for the opener the moon is full and you have better luck workin on your tan than finding any good bucks. Hot and Dry is the forecast until who knows when and the season just gets shorter and shorter.Dont mean to snivel to much but a weekend of waisting gas to get away from the crowds and finding nothing worth shooting can twist ya a bit. How did any one else fair this weekend.

I know what you mean about the hot weather. Down a little farter south we just finished up A zone. Where I hunt it wasn't any less than 95 degrees except one weekend. By around 9:00 am I am just looking for a tree to hide under. Good luck with the rest of you season.

well havn't you figured out whats going on yet, the idea is to sell as manny tags as possible put the season early, thus low numbers of deer being harvested.

And while we're on the subject, there's no more deer left here in CA. we've lost probably 60% of the deer in our state with-in the last ten years.

PETA wants evryone to believe it's hunters but it's the Mt. Lions if it was hunters then where's all the doe's and fawns..?..

Here's another Conspiracy theory for ya', I've applied for the devil's garden for the last 7 years with no luck, but the first year my oldest son applied he drew out,(16 yrs old) the first year my youngest son applied he drew out also, could it be their looking at the age on the apps, before they put 'em in the mix..?..

The fish and game dpt. are gonna have a hard time selling tags next year, it just keeps getting worse don't beleive me look at the sucess rate for the last 5 years......

You have to blame the Clinton administration for the drastic cutbacks in the harvesting of timber on federal lands. I use to hunt one day behind a logging crew and follow them as they work their way along a ridge. The deer would come in to take advantage of the fallen browse and easy access. No more. The CA DF&G clearly states in their studies and literature that the lack of logging on federal lands in the primary culprit in the reduced habitat carrying capacity for deer.

Now we just let the forest undegrowth build up, then get wiped away in 100,000+ acre wildland fires. We have spent $146 MILLION dollars this year on the Biscuit Fire alone in Oregon. We could have saved that money and generated some revenue if the federal gov't would have allowed timber sales in the area before they burn. This would have improved deer habitat and generated a little revuew for the goverment. Now we have to spend money to rehabilitate the area. Arrr....

You want improved deer numbers? Vote Republican, and get all your friends to vote Republican!

hitechhunter" your right' we were just talking about that the other day, but that only concerns the B-zone's but I hunt the C-zone across I-5 where it's mostly oaks and rolling hills..

Both of these issue's are a big factor in deer population drops..(MT. Lions & Logging).............................

I agree totally with both responses and as for the tag drawing what's up with the proposed point system.I think it was just a ploy to increase numbers of tags applied for and not drawn as usual. So as not to go emptyhanded we put a for-sure tag such as A,B zone tags as second choice and that is what we get.O ya we get a point. So does 10,000 other non sucessfull drawing individuals and that puts us where,As for logging practices you can go anywhere in the big green zone(B) and see the affects of no management in the burned areas of 87 and the lack of logged areas by the amount of ground choking brush fields the green weenies call forest these days.Sorry for the run on but I think we are all fed up with what has become the norm for our deer management system. This has forced alot of change in the way we look at deer hunting in Ca and that is a shame because we do produce some of the finest hunting in the west if only DFG and the FEDS would manage for that and not for the special interest groups they cower to.You got me going now so I better go cool off and clean my guns in hopes of some rainy weather soon.

It's cool that your season has started already. I still have to wait till the 5th of Oct. We need rain here really bad also, the roads are all gated so it is walk in only everywhere. Hopefully we will get some moisture soon. good luck guys.

where are you? It sucks when the opener is 105 degrees and the deer can hear you shift your weight 300 yards away!

JDR,

Have the F&G people got all of those Salmon cleaned up and out of the Klamath River up your way. Saw our local paper yesterday and shows a Game Warden holding up a 41" 40 pounder while some Biolgist gal was taking measurements. What a shame with all the lost of those Salmon up there. I think the paper said something like 12,000 Salmon lost.

hitechunter--you're dead on--went out the last two weekends of "A" zone and it was nuts on the last weekend--105* by noon--had my two boys and a friends son along and they were dieing--it's just not hunting in a way---I don't know why they can't let us hunt in October or November--maybe even in December---hell close the season down for a couple of weeks in the prime rut and then open it back up after-anything but July, August and early Sept--well it will probably never happen unless one of us get appointed the commish of the DFG-----chris

they are trying to put together a crew to clean it up but not to many want to constantly gag from the enourmous stench and carnage. This is amazing to actually see in person with the banks 3feet deep with rotting fish and this isnt just small fish this is 30 and 40 and even 50 pounders bloated and rotting(terrible at best) Hopefully with cooler weather and the release of some cooler water we can save whats left of our 2002 run and not destoy totally future runs.

Well, we got lucky in D5 and had cool weather for the opener. We got 2 small deer out of 4 hunters on opening day. I got the smaller of the two. My wife loves the "meat bucks". Off to Utah in 16 days for the Southeastern hunt, then Josephine Co (SW Oregon) for the close of that season.
