Failed to draw any western big game tags this year despite tons of points. Then my OTC Colorado elk hunt got cancelled August 23rd due to some out of the blue health problems. But ended up pulling a consolation prize out of my hat on October 3rd in Illinois, only three hours into my first hunt.

Was so happy to be free of month long brutal pinched nerve pain, I took a selfie seconds before my shot!

Had several folks claim no way he's 160" but my tape disagrees.

Monster 8 Zim.
No argument about score here either. He looks that big!
Well done!
Zeke

I've been hunting 20 years but mostly on public so totally not used to shooting deer like this. I knew he was big, but had no idea about how high 8 pointers can score until a guy at the processor saw him and told me. Since then several others have confirmed it. So I feel extra lucky to have found this joker.

Oh wow that's amazing. Since I've never sniffed anything near B/C before, I did not even know the minimum to get in. I thought it might be 175. But then I looked it up and saw 160". I know mine won't make net score after deductions, but he's so close!

Also, he does have a 5/8" nub on the passenger side that I didn't count as a point.......because I think they must be over 1"?

160 gets the award....170 makes all time book. 36 above 170....160" 8 is an awesome buck!

Weird this happened when it did. I was not even able to draw my bow until Sept. 30th, and then only twice. I was so happy just to be sitting in a tree out in the woods that day. Missed the trees and fall leaves. And I was hunting on a public property I'd never been to before, in a county I'd never hunted before.

I was weak and worried about my shot, so I spent 60 minutes sitting in the tree praying that it was a good hit. It was indeed bad but hit an artery. Tracked him only 86 yards. Was pretty much overwhelmed when I saw him. Culmination of 20 years effort.

I just have to keep looking at him Zim! It's a helluva 8 pt and a great buck, net, gross or otherwise!
again, Ya dun good,
Zeke

I agree with previous comments, that is one heck of a big 8!
I am surprised there are 36 all time in the book, I would have guessed fewer than that. Very hard to reach 170 with only 8 points on a whitey.
congrats on a great buck!

There are many things that would be nice to wish for or say but then I would be just like him.

Good for you, tremendous buck! I've been there myself with the pain of a pinched nerve and the problems it can create with just drawing a bow, much less making a good shot.

I had three shooting opportunities at ~150" bucks with my second tag but failed to seal the deal. Will try one more time in our second gun season Dec. 2-5 or late archery.

Ya when he walked out in the meadow he looked unnatural, like a cartoon or something. Out of proportion.

>Did the taxi water him while
>he had em? He looks
>like he got bigger! :D

Ya the camera positioning changes appearance. The first pic of me with buck in lawn he does not look so big. If you notice in today's photo since it is a completed mount, the back of the shoulder is against my leg, with head extended closer to camera. Not intentional, but only way I could hold it up for the photo. So I am partially long arming him to grip securely.

Hello Zim, I live way south of you in Saline County. Good whitetail hunting here also. Wandering thru the whitetail forum and noticed your post. A great buck last season. Our group of 3 mature hunters will be hunting cows with our black powder rifle come September in Colorado. I will P.M. you one of these days and we can talk Hunting Colorado. Good Luck, Cow Tag

I kept looking at your first posted pics and was saying there is no way in hell that is a 160 buck. But after seeing your taxidermy picture that thing is a beast. Its amazing how angles can change the perception. Congrats on a heck of a buck.

Damn good job man nice deer. I am going on my first white tail hunt in november on a free range ranch in Texas. I have never hunted whitetail before so I'm pretty stoked!!

Fantastic buck. Big eight points are just too cool. Shot my personal best this season. Only 139 2/8" green. Nuttin like that bruiser. Nice!
