All right you wannabe elk hunters! Give me your opinion
about this call. I was warned, but didn't listen. First
few days this call made sweet music. Then it started
sounding like a sick varmit call. 2 other people I know
have also had problems with them.

When they work, they are a great call. Will Primos is a
class act. However, I wasn't too happy with the call.

The only bobcat looking for a little more R & D!!!!!!!!!

I love mine, it is about 4 years old, still sounds perfect. I bought another because I lost the old one, and by an act of God I found it, so now I have two!!!!!

Had one for a few years and it finally crapped out. The rubber hole got torn somehow and how it doesn't work at all.

The new one I got when I subbed to EBJ messed up in the field as well. Didn't want to work when it was really cold. But as soon as it warmed up it worked fine>

Its a good thing I do not depend on them 100% for calling elk.

Mine is three years old and still works like new. I did have troble with it when it got wet but when it dryed out it was fine.

I have already stated that I ain't the sharpest tool
in the shed. The call is extremely easy to use. I had
the same experience as Hawk. But mine still doesn't
work right.

The only bobcat looking for a backup!!!!!

Best, I hear there's plenty hoochie's there in Cali, if you don't like the one you got just move on ;-)

I have two of them as well and mine both work perfectly after 3 seasons of about 20 days each. I'll suggest possible pilot error or a twig jammed down in the reed :)

Cheers,
Pete

dlelk1,

Attention........, Attention........Attention........, Attention........,

Did I say they were "hard" to use??? Did I say I couldn't use them???? Please re-read original post!

The only bobcat who is getting fired up but still laughing at
B_F_E's reply!!!!

I dont like mine! It may be fine for rockys, but it is too fast (IMO) for roosies. I find that a mouth call works better around here. I have had the Hoochie spook off bulls but was able to bring them back with a nice, slow sleaze. Plus, I am a bowhunter and it is nice to have both hands free to draw and call at the same time. Just my personal experience.

I've had mine for three years, used it on six hunts in Nevada and Utah, still works great. I will be taking it with me in Nov. on my Nevada bull hunt too... Good luck on all your hunts.

peeps on Primos were whining about "mama" giving up the ghost and they locked the thread. I always buy new calls every year, including the hoochie.
it's plastic, it's not going to last. Kinda like tires, only so many miles. You can go fast or you can go slow but the end will come.

KALI-CAT

HOOCHIE MOW MOWS WON'T LAST FOREVER!!!

I BUY A NEW CALL OR TWO EVERY YEAR!!!

THIS YEAR IT WAS THE ORIGINAL HOOCHIE MA MA!!!

I HAVE SEVERAL BRANDS THAT ARE SIMILAR!!!

I LIKE MIXING IT UP!!!

I'VE HAD A FEW CALLS COST ME A BULL OR TWO,WHEN THEY GO SOUR AS YOU'RE CALLING A BULL IN IT AGGITATES ME!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING IF KALI-CAT HAS CALLED IN ANY KALIFORNICATORS IN LATELY??? (YA,I'VE CALLED A COUPLE OF UTARDS IN ALREADY THIS YEAR!!!)

Bess,

I wish my call would have lasted one season!! It lasted about
6 hunting days. Maybe they are disposable, I don't know. I
think Polar Bear has some great advise.

Maybe I will send it to Altamont and you can give it a tune up!

Well, my Skeery didn't last too long either. Maybe they just
don't like me. Maybe I am getting paid back for all my harsh
words about SFW, Kalifornia..... the list goes on and on.

The only bobcat who better shape up and switch brands and states!!!!!!!!!

I find the Hoochie is prone to dirt and needles, it is effective when working. I still think you are better off learning to use a mouth reed, you have both hands free and you have an unlimited range of calling styles. The Hoochie definitely limits your calling choices.

But what ever your confident in is the best.

KALI-CAT

I THINK IT WAS WHEN YOU BAD MOUTHED MICHAEL THAT GOT YOU IN TROUBLE!!!

YA,THEY'RE DISPOSABLE!!!

BIO-DEGRADABLE I SUPPOSE!!!

IT MAKES YOU MAD AT 25-30 BUCKS A PIECE!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING IF YOU TRIED MY ADVISE WITH THE COFFEE IN A SMOKE IN A BOTTLE???

my dad killed a bull elk with his bow this year, he called it in with my hoochie mamma, it was working good then but It is not working too good right now I think there is a pine needle in the reed.

I have used a mouth reed and grunt tube for years but thought I would give the hootchie mama a try and ended up buying one, Well I guess we all make mistakes like gieco says, The first bull that I saw I figured I would give it a try, After 2 calls the bull turned and ran like he was shot out of a canon, called him back with the reed and tube and thought it was just a fluke so after he got in about 60 yrds I gave the hootchie another shot and goodbye bull for good this time, Later I came across some cows and gave them a call with it and they responded well to it so I'm thinking what the heck maybe just the bull had been called and bumped before, The next day I was out again and come across a couple small bulls well I give them a shot of hootchie and never saw them again either, My son also has one and he was doing fine with his when I get back to camp and tell of my delemna he asks for the call and compared sounds of the 2, They were both comparable and sounded great, so the next time out I used it again and without fail it worked the same as previously with the bull leaving the scene at great speed, I don't know if it was the throwing it against the trees and rocks a few times or the stomping on it that actually made it quit working or if it just gave out on its own but they got my money once and it won't happen twice, later that same day I called in my bull with a mouth reed and grunt tube so it worked out for me though.

If there was ever a call that didn't sound like an elk it would be hoochie mamma. They arn't worth the powder it would take to blow them up. I like to mix em up!! I like the mouth reed. I have called in some hunters with a hoochie mamma. I even called in a 4 wheeler in with one. Ya think they were dumb hunters. or ??

I had mine for about two weeks and it went bad. It was in the hands of my three year old boy when I noticed it so who knows what happened. I emailed primos and told them what happened and they sent out a new one with in a couple days. Then two weeks later I received another one in the mail????? Great customer service anyway!

Don't know what to tell you guys that have had bad luck with it. I think it works so well it should be illegal. HA!!

I've had mine for years, still sounds just as good as when I bought it. Have found a better call as of late though. One that is better. Problem sounds like you twisted the call tube and it's stuck in a different position.

I have had 2 of the calls, the first one went bad after lots
of use in the cold. The second I got this year and works great.
As for BFE's comment on no elk sounding like the hoochie, I heard a cow last year hunting in the uintahs that sounded identicle to the hoochie(i thought it was another hunter) till
the cows came out and were calling again.
This year ran into a group of about 100 cows and spikes they
split in two groups and ran, we called one group of 22 cows and 5 spikes back with a hoochie and an ivory plate combo. I had the hoochie and called a calf to 6 feet befor it saw me.
My buddy arrowed a cow at 18 yards and I arrowed a spike at
22 yards out of that group.
The best thing I like about the hoochie is not only elk calling
but how well it calms down deer and it allows you to get closer to them, but only in an area that has deer and elk.

Ive had mine for 4 years, called in two bulls this year with it on the general open bull hunt here in utah, love this call.

I have had a couple of Hoochies that I have had problems with. I believe the first one just basically got wore out, and the other one had problems when my youngest son got hold of it and done something to it. I still use them but use them along with another call to sound like more than one cow, and to give some variety. I like the call but don't want to depend on it as sometimes if you are not holding it correctly, it makes a bad sound. But like I said, I still carry one with me when elk hunting.
I've found that different calls work at different times on different bulls, so I carry 1/2 dozen different calls.

I haven't used the call alot yet. This is my first year archery Elk. It did work the one time I was able to get into the Elk. I called in a nice 5 point to 38 yards but hit the tree right in front of me. He did come busting through the trees though when I turned the call to the cow in estrus.

you guys do know that you just squeeze the bulb on them calls and ya don't hafta blow through em, doncha?

We all have Hoochies, we've had em for years and ours is still producing that sweet sound... Bobcat Im thinking this is user error, we have 5 or em and they all work like champs...

MuleyManiac79,

I am so pissed at your comments I can hardly type!! I even thought about using the CAPS key!!! User error?? You know I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed but even I can squeeze a friggen call!!!!

These calls suck. You must be using it in that warm Arizona weather.

Besides, WileyWapati made a great point.

The only bobcat who is pissed and ain't gonna take it anymore!!

You ought to be be dang glad to be living in Altamont. Besides, don't they have the highest per capita earning in Utah??? I think that most of you up there can even afford to go to an SFW banquet!!!!

The only bobcat needing an Altamont vacation!!!!

I wore out two hoochie mammas in about a month. Its not pineneedles ect because that was the first thing I looked for when it started sounding funny. Thats $60 worth of worn out calls in 1 month! I wont be buy anymore of these cheap ass calls.

Well bobby, through all our differences we might feel the same about something. Hell is still hot right? I had one hoochie and it crapped out on me after one year. I used it like crazy and out it away after about 6 months it wouldnt work anymore. I bought a new one and it has worked fine ever since. I dont think they are all going to be made perfect, maybe we just ended up with some crappy ones.
