LAST EDITED ON Oct-17-05 AT 07:24PM (MST)[p]Well our hunt didn't start off as well as we had hoped. While I was getting ready for opening morning with 3 of my daughters, my wife was on her way to a funeral in Idaho with another daughter and my boys. One of our ATV's broke down on our way up the canyon delaying us. We saw all kinds of moose and deer, but no elk. we had all kids of fresh sign but no elk. My wife made it to camp late Saturday night. which made my steress level go way down.I had one daughter go with me Sunday morning seeing only cows. Then my wife and I saw more cows in the afternoon. My wife and kids left Sunday night for home. I didn't see another elk for 3 days. I could hear them in the thick timber, but couldn't get a clear look at them. I got back home Wednesday night eager to go back Friday for the weekend hunt. Friday we got to camp around 5pm and hopped on the four wheeler heading towards the thick timber, all my wife could say was that I have faith that we will get a bull tonight. I KNOW IT! As soon as we started to ride in to the Pines my wife saw antlers down a ravine and I could only see a rump. When I got off the four wheeler I saw antlers we we moved for a better look then shot and he was down!!! He isn't the biggest bull but he sure has Charactor. He is a six on one side and a four on the other. His right pedicle is off to the side his G-2 was broken off but was growing straight up and he didn't grow a G-3 and hs main beam is twisted. This is my first branch antlered bull, after taking more than my share of spikes. This was supposed to be my first hunt with my dad ever. He was injured when I was younger and gave up hunting. My dad Passed away January 14th of this year not giving me the dream hunt I was hoping for. It wasn't until my wife and I got our bull to camp that we realized we shot this bull on October 14th. I think my dad was there the whole time.
I hope the pics turn out for everyone to see. If not I will take some help

Sounds like a great hunt.Congratulations on getting your bull. It is always better hunting with your family. The memories will last alot longer than the meat.

Sorry to hear of your dads passing . Congrats on a great hunt , real cool looking bull too . I loved reading your story , love it that your family was with you . Almost every hunt ,my dad is with me 99% of the time , but my wife loves to be in the mtns. as well as both of my daughters , and now my 7yr old is shooting a bow and last weekend she shot the .22 for the first time . I can't wait to hunt with her along side me , hopefully in 06 I can draw another antelope tag , it'll be a hunt for both her and I . Thanks for sharing your hunt , you brought some more love of the outdoors and eagerness to get out in the hills with my little one . Again thanks and congrats....NMHUNTNUTT
