I am going to get a bipod have it down to two either the versa-pod or the snipe-pod. Does any one use either and what are the goods and bads of each? I plan on using it on my 30-06 and my Omaga muzzleloader. Hunting will be done backpacking in the mountains I would like to shoot from a sitting position. I am looking for a pod that I can either put in my pack or on belt until it is needed. Any info and other options would be great. Thank You

Due to your terrain, I'd suggest SteadyStix actually. Long bipod's get in the way more often than not and are a pain. I had some original Stix and just got some of the spring loaded ones. Piece of cake to use and you can keep them in a pocket while not in use.

I have the versa-pod on one of my rifles. I really like it because you can detach it until needed and it also swivels so you can set up on unlevel ground and still have the rifle level. I want to say it swivels 30 degrees either way. Even with it attached to the rifle it isn't very heavy. Good luck with your choice.

If I were you I would look at the harris bypod
you can't but a better bypod for the money

My buddy just got the stoney point bipod from Cabelas. It it rock solid. In my opinion, more so than the steady stix II. He went with the taller version, so he can sit, kneel, or stand if any of those positions are required.

I'm actually buying a stoney point this weekend. I was really impressed.

Also, the legs are really easily adjusted on these, and you don't have to worry about them coming out of "joint".

I chose the snipe pod for my TC Omega and for my Sako 280 Ackley. one bipod, buy extra swivel adapters. nothing else is close in light weight or ease of carry. HArris bipods are OK for the range, but no way can you justify their outrageouse weight on a backpack hunting rifle. poor balance, crummy swinging, and unacceptable clumsy if you are sneaking through brush.. not to knock them for goats or prairie dogs, or for range work. but no one would ever take a heavy harris or caldwell, or other fixed mount bipod up the mountain we hike for deer and elk..at least not more than once.

snipe pods are pricey at 100 bucks, but with my TC Omega, I was shooting inch-like groups at 100 yards with mine. YMMV
