I was wondering if anyone has any info. on Thunder Ranch in the Uinta Basin area. A couple guys I know were out there 2 years ago and found alot of DEAD Elk, and Deer left to lay after there private hunts! I seen a show on the outdoor channell about this area but it didn't give any contact information!

They do not allow deer hunting and they are strict about hunting the elk. I had a cow tag they sold me for $60.00 last year.

Hey South Slope how were they with your cow hunt did they do all the work for you or was you able to go out and hunt on your own! How were they strict about the hunting of elk?

I was along on a cow elk hunt a few years back up there. We pulled up, waited for the elk to wander out from the swamp and into a meadow, shot 2 of them, pulled up (the rest of the herd within 200 yards still) and cleaned them. Was more like a canned hunt. Then the back-hoe drove down to the field and carried them back to the barn to hang.

I have seen several of the bull elk taken off the property. Nothing huge, a few 300 class bulls, but for the $4-5K it seemed like you could find a much better deal somewhere else.

I did however also have the opporunity to do a couple of goose hunts with Dewey Ward and Bob McCardell up there. Those guys used to run the hunting on the ranch and they did a great job and knew the place well. I'm not sure what the story is, but I know there was no love lost when they left.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-24-05 AT 06:00PM (MST)[p]Just as Lucas said, like a canned hunt. Our cattle are harder to hunt when they get out on the river. I think they are up to $8500.00 now for a bull.
