JH, I'm sure there are elk there as it borders the Jicarilla Reservation, but I spent 5 days hunting there with my son last year and did not see a thing and only a few fresh tracks. We got a good price on a bull tag, but no go. I talked with fish & game afterwards, and they laughed and said I should have talked to them before buying the tag. They said it is ok when Colorado gets a lot of snow and pushes the elk into the unit. I personnally wouldn't go back, but talk with the landowner and see if he can point you in the right direction. I would call the Albuquerque office and talk with the folks there. I tried the area biologist and never was able to get hold of him after about 20 calls, nor would he return my call. Maybe you'll do better than we did.
