Uncle's WA. Bull

So my uncle drew an any Elk permit for his unit this year finally and was able to connect on this 5x6 on the Wednesday, the second day of his hunt. He was pretty frickin' excited! :)

There isn't a more deserving guy then him to have taken this elk. Aside from the obvious, being in a chair since he was 21, he spends more time in the field, scouting, huntin' grouse, target shootin', whatever. You think you got a passion for the outdoors like no other until you talk to or spend some time with him.

He's 53 and been in a chair for 30+ years and this is his first big bull since he took a 5x5 6 months before his accident. Couldn't be happier for him.

He's got some better "field" photos but unfortunately weren't with a digital, so waiting to get a few scanned. These will have to do.....for now.

Muleyslyr, thanks for sharing the photos and story. I really enjoy seeing these types of inspiration stories of folks doing what they love to do regardless of whatever limitations they might have. That is one heck of a nice bull... one that he has every right to be exited about and proud of. My dad had a major heart attack in '92 and fatigue is his biggest obstacle in pursuing big game but me and my brother get him out whenever we can. We're hoping he'll draw a branched antler bull tag here in WA in the next year or so. Do you care to share the GMU?

Give your uncle a pat on the back and a big congrats. He deserves it.

He drew the Observatory A tag. You'd think he would have better odds on the draw, but it took him 6 years to get this tag.

What's funny is....it should be an inspiration to other people, that if you want something bad enough you can get it. Sometimes I don't see that cause' whether he's Boon-doggin' for steelhead down the Cowlitz River, or fly-fishin' for browns and rainbows at Fish Lake, or Huntin' Muleys and Elk, he's always right there....it's all I've ever known.

I was up in the observatory this weekend for spikes, seen one about 700 yards away.

And that's the way we should all look at it. From my viewpoint he's a fellow hunter and sportsman and that's all that matters. The inspiration should be to anyone who may be faced with an obstacle (whether its a physical limitation, financial limitation, or anything else) to do what it takes to pursue their dreams. Again, good job on a damn fine bull.

Much Congrats to your uncle and have him post the story here! :)

I'm happy to hear he got a 5x6 to beat out that 5x5 from 30+ years ago! RIGHT ON!!

Congrats to your uncle and rightfully so after such a long time and the accident that didn't stop his desire to hunt.
And thanks to you for posting the pictures and telling us about your Uncle.

muley....that is a great bull for anywhere, let alone the 'observatory unit'...congratulations to your uncle and all the rest that shared in his hunt....well deserved, i'm sure....thanks for the pics, looking forward to the 'field photos'...

Great bull! Yet the greatest part of this is the winning spirit that your uncle has. Many people would have given up on their dream. You have every right to be extremely proud of your uncle and everyone that shared in the hunt.
Thanks for the story and pictures. Your uncle is an inspiration to us all.

Very nice bull. Congrats...

My brother lost his leg 19 years ago in a logging accident. He has the same love of the outdoors like your uncle, he is all over the place. My siblings, Mom and Dad get phone calls during hunting season wanting a retrieval of an animal.

He once crawled through a clear cut working on cutting off a deer he wounded. He crawled about 1000 yards then took a 350 yard shot to take the deer. Then I got a call on my cell phone.

You got to love the heart and pride of these people. There has not been very many things that has limited him. He just calls the family together and lays out the problem. Our job is to find a solution. It actually is a lot of fun since I am an engineer.

He spends so much time with his rifle he is very comfortable taking long shots.

Great bull, great story. My hats off to your uncle it's awesome seeing someone who loves hunting so much be rightfully rewarded.

Simply awesome! If that's not inspiration/motivation for most of us, I don't know what is.
Thank you for posting.
And congrats to him!!!

To All.....Thanks for the kind words....made my day! Really is awesome the more I think about it.

My kids call me a crumugeon (sp) not even sure what that means, but I am totally moved by the story and pics. We all should stop whinnin' about stupid little things, eh? Congrats on a fine elk, now I am stoked for the late archery season. Be sure to tell your Uncle that for me.
