A GREAT TIME

Was out with my son-in-law and grandkids last Saturday when my son-in-law shot his elk. It was great to have all his kids there. Nice elk and nice shot. 175 yards as the elk was walking. And no I don't want to hear from the Ethics Police about how that is to far away to shoot and not to shoot at a moving elk.

Sounds like a great time for all. In this hectic world it is good to take time recreating with our family.
I understand what you mean about the ethics police here. wouldn't it be nicer if we would support each other instead of picking other people's narratives apart, being critical, forming a circle to kick the crud out of some poor guy who wanted to share his story/success with his friends? Is this a place where friends with a mutual intrest get together or, a place where we expose ourselves to criticism and shame? sometimes I wonder.

How exciting! I wish my son-in-law was a hunter. He's a good guy, just never hunted nor has the desire to. I envy you!

Sounds like a great hunt and I don't see anything unethical about this post. Congrats. I must say though if we don't police our own when neccessary it will get done by the antihunting crowd. Live by the laws that are set for hunting and get after the people who don't follow them. It's awesome hearing about kids getting involve with hunting especially with their dad's and /or dad's inlaws!!! Good job.

Got anymore single daughters??--I hunt-- wow,, a father in law that hunts,I know just what I would buy us for fathers day! <thanks DAD>...RIMROCK

All my daughters are married, sorry Rimrock 338. It is great to hunt with my sons-in-law, sons and daughters. This year 3 of my sons-in-law have gotten their elk along with one of my sons. (The other son can't hunt because he is in Mexico).I am the only one that hasn't pulled the trigger yet. It is great to go on hunts with these family members. I have also been with my daughters when they have killed moose, elk, deer, and antelope. It's a great family. We all get together every Sunday for dinner and a week never goes by but what the subject turns to one of our hunts.

Yup, I have to admit.... The best times I've had with my Dad have been when I've been able to go hunting with him. I remember my very first hunting experience was when I was around 5 years old and we were able to right outside our home and into our hay field. Dad had his shotgun and we went pheasant hunting! I was able to watch as a pheasant flew up and dad lifted his gun to his shoulder and dropped the pheasant within a few yards. I got to help carry them back to the house. Then when I was 14 I was able to use my Grandfather's .300 Savage lever action to take my first game ever. A doe antelope. My older sister dropped her doe with the same gun just an hour before. I was so excited to be with my Dad and it meant everything to me to be able to use his Father's gun to take that animal. You see, just 6 years before Grandpa had passed on. I was only 9 years old, so I never had a chance to hunt with my Grandfather. Being able to use his gun made it feel like he was right there with us. I'll NEVER forget those moments. Dad also took me with him when we packed the horses and went on a deer hunt. We came home with a small deer that day. Then when I was 16 I got my first elk. She was a huge cow. I was so excited to take those ivory to school and show my friends what I had been able to harvest. My Dad and brother-in-law were able to share that hunt with me. Since then I've shot a nice sized 4 point bull elk and another small deer. These memories are very vivid to me and I hold them very near to my heart. I'm very glad that my Father raised me with these awesome experiences and such dear memories. These are the moments that I have felt the closest to my Dad. My only wish is that we can share many more together. Love you, Pappabull. Thanks again for being such an awesome Dad!!!

Great memories!!! My father passed away almost a year ago December 3rd. I really miss talking to him about hunting. Hikchic, well said!! Say it as much as possible and as often as you can.
