If you had $1000 to buy some nice binos in the 10X40 range what would you get? I have the Pentax DCF WP that are a couple years old. I like them a lot and they are great glass for the money. Now I want to step up. Any recommendations? Anyone want to buy the Pentax's from me?

stiener predators. i'm probably the only guy here who likes them. i'm the only person i know that wants a pair, but i think they're a great pair of binos for about $750.

Leica Swarovski and Zeiss all exceptional glass the 10x40 Zeiss classics are a good buy. I am a Leica fan and currently use the duovid 10/15x50. I have owned all of the above and honestly there all excellent. Try them out at a store and find the one that fits your hands and eyes best.

I've tried the Zeiss Classics and they are nice but IMO they are not that much of a step up over my Pentax to warrant the extra expense. I'd like to move up one more notch in quality over the Zeiss Classics.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-08-04 AT 11:59AM (MST)[p]What do you all think about the Zeiss Victory II? I have a $100 Cabelas gift cert to use and looks like they are giving another $100 cert to use towards your next purchase. Seems pretty good to me and I hear these are right up there with the Swaros.

the only problem with zeiss the new models of zeiss is that they have a ton of problems with there binoculars but they do have a good warranty but you will probably have to use it. The binoculars with the least problems are the Leica they are the toughest by far. next are the Swarovski excellent binoculars also.

You want Swarovski slc,el, or the new Leica ultravids. The Els and the ultravid are 1,250 at hotbuyelectronics.com That is where I got my els and I love them. My experience has been to get the best the first time, it saves you a ton of dough in the long run. The slc are under 1,000. Best of luck.

I just bought a new pair of Nikon Monarch's, I paid $250.00 and they work great. Next time you are in a sporting good's store pick up a pair of these and any other pair they may have. Compair the specs and clairity of the optics, I could not justify the extra $800.00, but $800.00 is alought of money to me and I now to some it is not. Just my opinion.
