Congrats Man! Good season. Great buck and some good bulls too! Can't wait to hunt with my bro soon out here. He s building a few nonres points

Man, those mountain bucks put Eastern Plains bucks to shame in every category except maybe size, but man those mountain bucks are pretty.

I personally will take a hard earned, narrow, deep forked, chocolate horned mountain buck over a plains buck that's wide, trashy and has bleached out horns any day but that's just me....

I had my taxi (who is a official scorer) tape him the other day when I dropped him off and he came up with 184 and some change gross and he nets 181. Very symmetrical buck. I could honestly care less what he scores at this point. He?s probably one of the prettiest typicals ive ever put my hands on and he has a beautiful dark cape. My wife is loving my taxidermy bill so far this fall...

>Great buck. Tell us the
>story.

I've been running this unit for several years now in the 2nd season. The tags are very easy to obtain for us as residents and it can be a down right tough. Last year I finally starting putting the pieces together on the bigger deer in the unit's habits pre rut. Last year I was able to get my buddy on a great 186in typical and i went into this year with a goal of killing a minimum 180 plus inch deer. (Majority of people smash the first buck they see in this unit) I actually had found a buck in the 215 to 220 nontypical class the week before 1st rifle and had somewhat kept tabs on him but three days season some young bucks from our western border who had watched a few too many tines up and hush videos on YouTube decided they were going to go hike every basin, drainage and skyline themselves as much as possible... needless to say I caught them on the road riding 6 deep in their ranger and we had a good ?educational? talk. Thus, I knew my target buck was long gone and I failed to relocate him the two days I had to scout before season started. In fact I could hardly even find a deer in general. My buddies, brother and dad all showed up on Friday afternoon and we started out going after elk for opening day. I was able to connect on bull opening day and spent the rest of the day packing out. Sunday rolled around and my buddy Colt and I decided to do a big hike and get up high (12k feet) and do a lot of glassing and see if we could find some bucks. After seeing a handful of smaller deer we decided at 5:30pm to make a move. As we were coming across a steep ridge I happened to look to my right and the buck stood up from his bed. I instantly knew he was a good deer by his body size and his forks. Without hesitating I pulled the gun up on him and made a quick shot on him as he was peeling out of dodge on us. Initially I didn't know how good he was until I got up on him. Typically, I found ground shrinkage to occur when you make a quick decision like I did but I was pleasantly surprised what I say when I walked up on him.

Hell of a nice buck for that unit. I spent 14 days up there in September and barely saw a deer. Sweet buck for sure congrats!

That's a real good one you got. Hope we find one like that. Congratulations!

I agree, score isn't everything. Just wanted to confirm my estimate is all.
Congrats

That shows you that the big boys will stay up high until they get pushed down by deep snow. What elevation did you take him at?
