It looks like I am going to make my buddy's hunt. I am leaving Montana Friday. If anyone has any last minute advice, I'll listen. I have heard snow will help. After being hunted for months, are the bulls in the dark nasty? He has talked to some local folks, and everyone has been helpful. I just learned after knowing him for years, that he has never killed an elk before, much less a big bull. I am thinking that score may be of much less importance than just getting my bud a bull. I'm pretty sure score is irrelevant to him. I felt some pressure before to hunt till a booner was found. Now I think it will be just friends hunting elk. To all that have helped so far, thanks. mtmuley

Have fun and good luck! I will be leaving tomarrow for the same hunt. Funny My brother is tagging along, he lives in Mt also.

Have fun and stay warm!

Mtmuley-

Can we hear about your hunt? Hope you had fun...should've had more snow than we did on the early hunt.

Not much to tell guys. We did take the advice of almost everyone we talked to and glassed and glassed and glassed. I finally decided to pick the brains of some locals, and even met some guides from one of the big time outfitters. They were helpful about some smaller 300 to 320 bulls, which for my buddy would have been a great first elk, but by this time it was Sunday evening, and I had to leave Monday morning. This was in the second to last week. There was maybe 8 to 10 inches of snow, and we went all the way to the top of Cave creek on the lake side, and across Kalamazoo. I don't know if my buddy went back as I haven't heard yet. This seemed like a tough hunt and the guides and guys at the sporting goods store reinforced that. They also had the opinion that way too many tags are issued these days. I wish we would have had the whole season, but sometimes a thing called work gets in the way. Although he didn't take a bull, I had a blast. Killer country, and a lot of good people met. mtmuley
