I'm thinking of putting in for an elk hunt in unit 45. The regulations say "very limited access." Anybody have any experience in this unit? Any trouble with access? Unit's 43, 44 have similar harvest statistics for controlled hunts. Which units have the best trophy potential. Like everyone else, I'm looking for that big bull for the wall. Any opinions, suggestions.

Unit 45 is alot of desert, with the western side having some mountains. The problem with the western side is that it has alot of private land, and from what I have heard not easy to get permission. That is where I have seen the most elk. Altho, I did know somebody that took some big elk out of 45, and I don't think that he had permission. 44 is great country, lots of nice foothills with some good sized mountains, and lots of public lands, with private ranches intermixed in the foothills. 43 is alot of public land, haven't spent alot of time there, however did shoot a small buck with my bow years ago in Unit 43.

outdoordan,
Thanks for the info. Still don't know which unit I will put in for. I need more research, opinions.
