Oak Cr

I was through there on Dec. 28th on my way home from Boise, lots of bulls. There were 3 bulls that were at least 350 and several low 300's. I didn't have my camera, sorry.

The Big Horn station was looking great also, about 100 head with a few near full curl and 1 full.

It is worth the trip.

Always worth the trip! I haven't been there since they started using the machine feeder. Got to ride on the hay trucks with my nephew's boy scout troop a few years ago. About as close to an American Safari as you're gonna get! Big old bulls so mean no other bulls are even close to them, let alone trying to eat some of their hay. And I'm sitting on an old deuce and a half ten FEET away from them!
A trip to any of these feeding stations will get your motor going and make you wonder why fish and game is holding back so much on the bull tags.
I will get there this winter. My little special needs daughter absolutely goes ga ga when we visit.
Take the spotting scope and tripod in addition to all the binoculars you own. Put the camera on a tripod too with the longest lens you've got. We should see if WDFW would put a camera up like the DOT has!

Havent been there yet this season, but plan to. I took my wife there on the way back from our honeymoon (11 years ago today). She thought that it was cool but still tells everyone "how romantic" it was to go watch the elk. Haaahaaaa.... It is a great place for all those folks that think that there arent any decent bulls left in this state, to go and eat crow. This subject has me thinking... Hmmmmmmm..... Road trip?

Glad to hear the report, hopefully someone will get some pics. I was hoping to make it over there but haven't yet? Were there any spikes left?

I only live about 20 minutes from there but my mother in law got me a trip out there. She bought a thing where I can take 5 people with me on a 1.5 hour guided tour out there. Should be fun and will take alot of pics.

Ya better bring us back some pics is all I can say. Kirkl that sounds like a sweet deal, can't wait to hear how it goes.

All,
You should take a trip down the Yak canyon. Seen lots of activity this morning. Sorry, no pics. Lots of elk in Joe Watt. Couple of 300's and one that is at least 340.

What's the Joe Watt? The Canyon is almost always good if a guy has his eyes open. I drive like an old grandpa through there. Have seen lots of sheep and elk over the years. Have seen some, but not a lot of deer.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-06 AT 03:57AM (MST)[p]I'll be heading down soon with my wife and kids.I always enjoy the trip!

My wife and I just went this morning. Some good bulls. Lots in the 300 to 330 but one real good one. He's in the 350 range.Theres also some nice sheep in the other station. We went up to the nile station but there are only 100 to 200 elk. one good bull and lots of deer.

I was at the feeding station in Joe Watt Canyon last Saturday and got a few pictures. I've seen more branched antlered bulls in years past. Maybe the permit season for bulls had a high kill rate because of the snow. At this feeding station, the bushes and trees along Joe Watt creek hide a lot of elk, so maybe I didn't see the bulls. This is in Washington. The highway and transportation built a high fence to prevent migrating animals from crossing I-90 and feeding on private lands. So now the elk have to be fed hay during the winter. A good example of how important the winter range is to our lifestyle of hunting.

Decent six-point leaving the hay.
