most rugged area or unit in any state where I could hunt OTC trophy elk. I think this is the only way to get away from others without buying extremely high priced tags or drawing those 3 percent tags. Im not certain if I can do a hunt such as this or not, but it would be a goal to strive for. What I am asking you for is areas that are so nasty - but full of elk - that you wouldn't go back.

I've heard the Gunnison area in Colorado is tough if you get 3+ feet of snow. They call it Colorado's "ice box" or "freezer" or "ice chest"...you get the idea.

Mongolia China. The elk even have "curly" hair vs the straight hair'd elk we have in the states. Nastiest terrain you could hunt elk in.

You wont be getting away from people buy picking in a round gunnison. There a lot of people in that country with horses taht use them to get in deep.

Colorado Unit 65.....elk up to 13,000 ft. Some country too rough for horses.......depends what you call trophy quality. A big bull there is maybe 320.
