Shot a big cow last week. I finally got to kill something with the bulletts Ive wanted to try. I was using my 300 win mag and Remington core lokt Ultra 180 grain. The shot was about 200 yards and the bullett went through one rib bone, through the lungs and through another ribe bone and exited, the exit hole was about the size of a quarter. I think it performed perfectly.

Congrats on a good hunt , glad to hear you got an elk and your bullet performed like you hoped . I was just sitting here wishing I had atleast drawn a cow tag , cow hunts are such a blast , no pressure , just pure fun....Ya lucky dog....NMHUNTNUTT

LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-06 AT 10:39AM (MST)[p]You have 9 months from when you sign up to complete it. It took me 4 or 5 months I think. If you past the test the first time it could only be a couple months, I didnt pass it on the first time.

Kirk,

Nice job on the cow. I knew you would score if you kept at it.
Did you get you AH letter in the mail stating we now need 30 hours of volunteer service to keep up our AG status in a 5 year period? It kinda blew me away, but I guess it will keep out the wannbees.

Bryan, thanks

I got a good spot for cows if you ever want to come try for one. Ill take ya to it. Ya i got that letter. I think there trying to weed out some of the slackers in the group.

Sweet deal. I think I am almost sold. So you can hunt regular season, and if you are drawn for an AHE tag hunt that as well?

Crunchy, there are some special permits you can apply for with the AHE but i didnt do that, Heres kind of how it works. There is 3 elk areas over here 3911,3912 and firing center where you can shoot a cow from August until feburary and long as you are an AHE. If you shoot a spike during general season you cannot shoot a cow with your AHE, you must have a valid elk tag to shoot the cow. They did do something new this year, in elk area 3911, if you shot a cow during september in that elk area they were letting you buy a second elk tag. I didnt do it this year but i will next year if they do it again. Thats kind of the just of it.
