Beaver elk unit

Try to hold back on the beaver jokes. I have max points for elk. Can anyone help with information on this unit. I read that the bull to cow ratio is 10/100 which would make it the lowest in the state. Is it a tough hunt for 340 or better bulls. Is the terrain difficult for a 63 year old man. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

lastchance,

Beaver jokes on this site. C'mon we've got more class than that:)

I'm not a Beaver expert by any stretch, but I'm having a tough time believing the bull to cow ratio is that low. Time has proved that there some huge bulls on the Beaver and that most of the big bulls are shot in the sagebrush/pinion country of the unit.

My take on the difficulty of the terain is that it would be one of the harder units to hunt.

I'd think you could find easier country to hunt with bulls in the 340 class on other units.

Not trying to keep you away from the Beaver, but with max points you may be better off on another unit.

Good luck. Wishin I had max points. I'm sure there are some Beaver experts on here.

I have heard what Prism says. Not the easiest terrain. The Beaver can be a real stinker.;-)

Based on what you are saying, what about Boulder?

I am not an expert on the Beaver unit and this does not say anything about the size of the animals taken but the posted results from 2004 show the any weapon season went 17 for 18, and muzzleloader went 3 for 4, but archery was only 2 of 7. It does seem to have a bit higher mean days hunted then some of the other limited entry zones, but 20 of 22 does sound like they had no problems finding bulls.

The reason for the lower sucess rate on the archery hunt is there is an archery deer and archery spike elk hunt that runs the same time as L.E archery elk.

The opportunity at a340+ bull on this unit shouldn't be a problem. There are some areas that are fairly accessable on the south end and on top by big flat and Iant creek but like was already stated most of the mountian is rugged with some good horse trails. Can't tell you much about the west side of the mountain.

How does the Beaver unit stack up for the upper end bulls against the more talked about units? Would a person have a shot at a BC animal? Would a person need horses to hunt it- I heard someone mention horse trails.

The Beaver Unit seems to produce some good bulls every year. As mentioned, the terrain is pretty rough. As for the Beaver jokes....none here, but I would reccomend hunting somewhere between the "Fillmore-Beaver" area.

The Beaver unit can be a great unit knowing the right people at the right time- friends make all the difference when it comes to hunting the beaver
