MOFFAT COUNTY - Emergency crews have responded to the scene of a deadly bull elk attack on a ranch in northwestern Colorado.

The attack happened on the Wyman Elk Ranch, located on Highway 40 about two miles east of Craig.

Reports from local ranchers and the Craig Daily News say an employee of the ranch was killed by a captive elk. The employee had only worked at the ranch for a short time, according to those reports.

The man's identity was not immediately released because authorities were trying to contact his family.

Thats the danger of keeping wild animals in a small cage!! A wild Elk would not have done that....at least I hope not

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-06 AT 07:31PM (MST)[p]Lou Wyman sold all his elk a few years ago. I guess the new owners of the ranch brought in more? His neighbor to the east, Wes Adams, still has a bunch.

*Edit - I guess he didn't sell all the elk, and hasn't sold the ranch yet, either.

The owners said the elk might have been "still in rut".

Uh, sounds like they really know a lot about elk. Check the calendar lately?
