LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-06 AT 08:48AM (MST)[p]Lets see how many will be changing weapon choice and units that they applied for in 2005 in Utah for elk.
This will give applicants a chance to see how the odds can and will change from odds charts 2005.
I changed weapon choice.9 points
No change on unit choice.
Resident.

I wanted to switch, but I did not. I am still thinking about it though bird. My unit sucked last year. I am seriously considering a switch to the Beaver unit. That unit had some monsters killed on it and I have max points. I hate to waste those on a lesser unit. Can you say "Amend Application?"

My wife switched from buying a point to Wasatch late. She will affect draw odds, but as it stands I won't.

Bird if I had less than 7 or 8 pts I'd put in for primitive weapon elk tags. Russ I've got 6 pts for henrys deer tag and will put in more the muzzy hunt.

looking at the 2005 apps by point report it looked like a bunch of NR jumped in all over last year. There seemed to be a large number in Dutton too after the mags came out with the big bull stories. I'm switching to a "lesser" unit cause I'll never have enough points to really matter so the only chance I have is to be in a low NR pool unit.

I am guilty of changing units from year to year but this year I will stay with the same unit and one of the biggest reasons is I know where I want to hunt on the unit if I do draw. The fuel prices will keep going up and scouting could be very expensive this year.I spent 1400.00 just in fuel last year scouting the unit I want to draw. This comes into play on where I want to hunt.I cant afford to keep switching units and scouting them.I was thinking of going with the beaver unit also ktc maybe next year with my bow if I cant draw a tag this year.It could be one of the top units this year for monster bulls but the size of a bull I would be happy with can be found in most all the LE Units.

Hey WapatiBob. I know what you mean.I am a NR and have put in for Dutton the last couple of years and when I seen the odds from last year, I couldn't believe it.Therefore I have also switched units and I have also switched weapon choice so I to have changed the odds.Warbirdum, I know what you mean about the gas prices. If I draw I will get lucky if I can even scout at all. But,I know some people that know some of the area.Good luck to all of you on the draw.

Bird,

You sandbagger....I have seen the animals on your wall.

You will hold out for 360+ and I wlll hopefully be there to help you pack it out.

That unit is TOUGH!!!!!

Alan

Yes,
Elkslayer it is a tough unit, If I draw I will be asking a few good men with horses to come down for a while this time. The biggest mistake about that unit is not having horses if you ask me.They should put that in the proclamation next to the unit name.(TAKE HORSES OR YOU WILL BE SORRY.)
Alan let me know when you get your New Mex. bull back from the taxidermist.I would like to see it.

Holy crap Elkslayer! You are going to need to quit your job to pack out all of the elk you have promised to pack out!;-)

ktc,
Lets make him keep his promise I have seen him in action, I think his elk tooth neckless gives him power or something he can hike for miles and miles and miles and miles.
That is The Truth.

Stayed with the same and same weapon. Hopefully a different result.
The wife stayed with the same unit but switched from late back to muzzy.

Bird,

The New Mexico Bull is "On THE WALL".

I hope your Utah Muzz hunt is not during my NM hunt.

Give me a call.

Alan

Is your bull still warm?I have never had any of my mounts completed that soon.
I will call you.

I was lucky to draw a LE elk tag in 2004, AWESOME!!! Utah's le hunts are the best! Wife has 4 points on elk, changed units, and season this year. As great as the first season is, just thought she might have a little better chance on the late hunt?

Been five years, starting over, so I affect only those with no points just like me. Maybe I'll draw again sometime in my lifetime.
