I drew a general tag this year and will be hunting in this area. Could anyone give me an idea of what to expect as far as the terrain and weather. I will be hunting starting on September 27.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-06 AT 09:30AM (MST)[p]You've got a guide right? That's wilderness area, a non-res requires a guide or a WY buddy/relative to get a free temp guide permit.

yes I have a guide, and I talked to the references given. I was just looking for input from someone else.

ford_boy, I hunted the Thorofare in '05. I had a great time but was only able to stay for 3 days and the weather didn't cooperate. This is some beautiful country. Have you ever been in there? I don't know where you are from but if you are a flatlander you better get in shape. The terrain is very steep and lots of griz. I hunted the first season last year and packed in at 80 degrees. The next day we were at 10,000' and got hit with a snowstorm. The 3rd day in we had 5" of snow and the temps were in the 20's and 30's. The snow really triggered the bulls and we heard lots of bugles. Actually saw a grizzly chasing a spike bull only 150 yards from us. Awesome sight! Plan on all weather extremes. If you need any other information, let me know. Good luck!

I am a flat lander from NC, but I have been hunting around Lusk the past 5 years. I have never been to this part of WY but, I am glad just to have a chance. I wanted to go on a pack in hunt, and from what info was able to get, this area was a decent area and the gen. tag had pretty good odds. Thanks for your response.

ford_boy, what part of NC are you from? I reside about 35 miles west of Charlotte. Good luck on your hunt.

madmike, I live in Elizabeth City. About 40 miles west of the Atlantic ocean. Home of little deer, big mosquitos and fat women.

Don't know about the women in your area but hunted bear down at Lake Phelps and mosquitoes were terrible in November. Deer left a little to be desired also. Good luck on your hunt.
