I have 14 points. I have been in 10 but not the others. Leaning toward 201.

Any help appreciated,

Archer

Archery elk,

Res or NR?

If NR do you really think you can draw with 14?

GH

Good luck...it should be an awesome hunt. (14 years in the making.)

Let us know if you get drawn, and how your hunt goes if you do.

GH

I would look at 2. At least research it in the last week or so you have. Everything read is just as good as 10 without as much private property. It usually takes ABOUT as many points as 10 but some hunts , some years take one less point. Good luck in whichever one you go for.

Don,t want to make you feel bad but I looked at the stats and you may not get 201.There are some other people with 14 points or more that might put in for 201.I think there will only be about 2 tags for non residents this year...Devlin

Devlin,

That's what I was trying to suggest in my earlier post also. What are you doing this year with your points?

GH

I also am a NR with 14 pts and the way I figure I am a few
years away from any of these archery tags, if not I also would welcome any info. on these units, I have been leaning towards
2 because of the amount of public land.

Am a resident with 13 for elk, and looks looks like 13 wont get me into 201. Have 13 points for deer and am considering unit 10. I have heard people tell me that unit 10 is overated for deer and elk, any thoughts?

I have 14 points also but I,m just putting in for rifle in 201 and I know I won,t get drawn so I,m still building points.I,ve hunted 201 a few times and seen quite a few bulls there but only a couple of big ones. You have to have horses to get into the big ones and have to know the country somewhat.I wish I knew unit 10 or 2 because I would probably put in for archery there next year...Devlin

I didnt think 201 was really roadless Devlin. I have never been there but had this perception that the country was more low with rolling hills, so much for my perception.

I hunted Unit 2 ,,2 yrs ago archery, I spent a good amount of time in unit 10 looking the year before, but I always found better animals and easier (cheeper) access to the private property in unit 2. I still shot mine on public land but I needed the private property for observation points during the summer..Fantastic hunt.I was told by some of the DOW officers that they were appling for unit 2 instead of unit 201.Not sure weather they were yanking my chain or not. The year I drew , I spent every weekend but1 for 3 months in the unit looking for water, walking different canyons, and just overall scouting the unit. Where I shot my bull was in an old burn and the grass was 3 or 4" tall. Last year I when back to the same spot, Grass was 5" tall. The bulls were an average of 25 to 30 points higher last year because of the wet year.Good luck

>I sent you a PM.
>I hunted one of those
>units with a rifle last
>year.

ColoradoOak,

I also have 14 preference points and am looking to hunt one of these units in the next few years any info you could give me as well would be useful.

I've heard of the landowner tags...but I thought I heard they were charging around $15K for them!!! Is that possible?

GH

I have 14 NR points and am going to hold out for area 2. That being said I am thinking of doing a cow hunt it that area so I can scout for future year when I eventually draw. What season would be best or does it matter.
