Well, ol' Chuck Adams had it for a short time. Shawn Patterson's bull taken with Travis McClendon scores 414 P&Y points.
The bull with be officially recognized at the national convention in spring of 2007.
Who knows, maybe that score will be surpassed next season.
It appears that the "good times" for elk hunting is now!!!

I plan on destroying that new record. Don't know how though. Maybe a special tag draw would be a start. I'm thinking 430 ish if I can keep my nerves steady.

Sorry guys, but with the extreme lack of moisture this year the bulls wont get quite that big. Wait a couple more years. Thats how it always seems to work, every couple/few years bulls seem to be bigger than the season or two prior. I've seen it happen. And sorry to burst your bubble, but with the unit ___ tag that I drew this coming fall will put me within shooting distance of that bulls big brother.!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a great link for the southwest water/snow pack data.

http://www.cbrfc.noaa.gov/snow/snow.cgi

simply click on the spot you want then again on the station you want and it will give you the graph where you are vs. last year and the average. You can click again and get additional years data. Up here in northern Utah we have 165% in some areas.

Just depends on the area you hope to be hunting!

Cheers,
Pete

Does anyone have a picture of Shawn Pattersons Bull?? Sure would love to see the NEW WORLD RECORD!!! Groundhog

Yeah - I don't know if I'd take this bull or not -I'm sure holding out for something better than that. I won't kill anything less that a 500 class bull! I might take this one though - maybe on the last day. His G3's are pretty weak.

Holy cow that thing is beautiful! Look at the mass on his 4's and 5's, plus he has great symmetry. He is going to look good on a wall. Too bad it won't be mine!

Yea Zigga, I agree. The last time I was forunate enough to hunt Archery for Bulls in AZ I had a hard time keeping my arrow on its rest for a 360 class Bull--let alone a MONSTER like that.

WOW!!! What a great Bull!! He has some great tine length. He isn't as heavy as I would have expected but he sure has some great G-4s and G-5s. It is interesting that recently the Pope and Young panel has officially lowered Boone and Crockett Official scores of several big bulls. Jeff Thorpes Washington bull was officially scored at 421 7/8 and the P & Y panel scored it at 412 7/8. Chuck Adams bull was originally scored at 412 and P & Y panel officially scored it at 399 1/8. Nick Franklins B & C Official 444 0/8 the panel scored at 442 0/8. Clay Heutts B & C 429 6/8 the P & Y panel scored at 422 6/8. The way I understand it the B & C scores were all official scores after the drying period. I guess it is possible that the antlers continue to shrink some... The way I look at it when they get as big as these bulls, who cares what they score? They are just huge!!! Groundhog

that second huge bull that chuck adams got scored 399 1/8. so it was smaller than his oringal record right...i just want to make sure i dont have things mixed up.

THE NORTH FORK HUNTER

The Chuck Adams Bull that I was reffering to was his 2003 bull. Everyone was saying it would be #1 but it was scored by the panel at 399 1/8 making it #5. You can check it out at Kings outdoor world, Big buck alert, lastest news and rumors. I think you are right, Chuck has taken two monsters grossing over 400!! Best of luck to you!! Groundhog

thanks, i was curious what that bad boy scored.i thought his 2003 bull would of scored higher but still a pig.

THE NORTH FOK HUNTER

c3.
nice post.
holly buckets my area looks like i'll need a boat.
and a bailing mach. for the grass that will probly be 6'-0 tall.
can you hunt from a tied off hot air ballon?

the only problem in this picture would be I would have liked to have been the man in the photo. Yes very jealous. great bull congrats to the lucky hunter.

I've read and heard that the the score of Shawns bull can't be officially recognized until 2007. Why? That's a kick ass bull. The Montana record made me proud for a while. But, there are no more big bulls here. None. mtmuley

I had heard that the ranch Chuck shot it on had it shipped from NM because MT has no decent bulls on it. None. Just a rumor though.

mtmuley,

I believe P&Y does the same as B&C. Any trophy that has the potential of being in the top ten must be verified by panel scoring done once every awards period(3 years). The "official" score it has now will stand as long as it falls within a certain percentage of the panel score. I don't remember what the percentage is for elk.
