Max Points for San Jaun

I have max points and have put in for the San Juan unit. If I draw, would anyone be willing to head me in the right direction for that 380 400 class bull for a nominal fee. I am not looking for a guide, just a little guidance in the right direction.

Thanks, bggmhtr.

Good luck in the draw. You will probably have 15-20% chance of drawing with max points, according to last years early rifle stats.

OK, for a nominal fee of,... lets say $99.95 I will tell you about one of our secret spots that we had three bulls tied up last year that scored over 390.

Drive west, take the gravel road, follow this road until you come to a tall ponderosa pine tree, then turn left and follow the dirt road until you come to a bent over spruce tree n the shape of an X...get out of your truck here and follow the trail through the oak brush until you come to the large red maple tree..., on the other side of the maple tree you will see a big rock...climb this rock...at the top take out your bino's and glass to the southsoutheast approx. 257 yards across the draw...you will see a black burnt stump in the shape of a bear with an extra leg... then look in a 60 degree downward angle to the right about 70 yards and you will see a patch of 3 aspen that make up triangle...inside this triangle tied up, will be your bull that scores 390 2/8.

good luck...happy hunting

sorry...I couldn't resist.

On a serious note, scout hard a week before, and glass like crazy, If you really want a 380-400 bull, study as many mounts as possible so you know what and what not to pass on...again good luck...

I will introduce myself when I find you there BTO. Who am I speaking to, Travis or Todd. Anyway, I appreciate the advice.

I have heard, but I think you are fibbing a little bit when you say that there is a 380-400 class behind every tree!

WELL HOT DAMN!!!

380-400 BULL HUH???

THERE ARE 2 BEHIND EACH TREE!!!

IF YOU DON'T SEE THAT 390-2/8 BULL THAT BLACKPREDATOR SENT YOU TO,TAKE 382 PACES TO THE WEST,THEN 90 PACES BACK TO THE EAST,LOOK AT A 35 DEGREE ANGLE UPWARDS,NEXT TO THE MAHOGANY TREE THERE IS A 398-7/8 BULL THATS BEDS THERE,YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY TROUBLE FINDING THIS BULL!!!

THE ONLY bobcat STILL WAITING FOR A FEW OF THEM NOMINAL FEE'S!!!

AND ONE MORE THING CHAD!!!

DO YOU HAVE ONE OF THEM NEW HIGH POWERED PICK-UPS???

I'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO PIN-STIPE IT FREE ON THE SAN-JUAN!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING 5K WORTH OF NEW PAINT SHOULDN'T BE TOO MUCH TO ASK!!!

I will tell you what I would do if I had a San Juan tag, get out the Home equity line checkbook and send a check for $xxxx to Travis or Todd. Then come September all you have to do is show up!

Amen to that! With that tag I would probably sell 2 of my kids to pay for a guide! Seriously though. Scout it out and hunt till you kill one. There are a lot of great bulls on that unit but it is never a gimme. Good luck if you draw.

I hooked a guy here I know up with Todd and Travis on a muzzleloader hunt a couple of years back. he asked me if it would be worth it and he will now tell you it definately was. If you want a big bull on the San Juan or a good bear you need to talk to these guys. I don't think their fees are to bad either...JMO....

If you want a guide then Todd (BTO) is the best there is down there. Great guy and honest.

That said, I would rather go down and shoot a 360 type bull on my own over a guided 380+. That is just me or course, nothing against anyone using a guide. If the number of inches is that big a deal to you then hire Todd and go shoot your bull. Either way, I imagine it would be a great hunt. Best of luck to you.

I can tell ya where I have seen big bulls during Deer seasons, That might help ya when you going down to scout it. Pm me if you want to.

A friend with max points did'nt draw. It will be interesting to see what the odds were this year with max points. Good luck.

I will take your advice because I now have that coveted tag!!!

bggmhntr,

Congratulations on the tag. You have a good one for sure.

I need to ask. With the 380+ talk are you prepared to go home empty handed? It can be done, but it will not be easy. Could you accurately size up a 360 bull and pass him? I couldn't. Don't get caught up with the 380+ stuff. You might get disappointed.

Good luck.

Congrats bggmhtr, You'll have a great hunt. I was down there for 13 days last year. Hopefully they will get more rain for antler growth. Good luck on that 380 plus.

Congrats, I will probably see you down there, my dad drew a tag. If you need any help look us up, we would be glad to help any way we can. I know the Mountain very well, we have been bear hunting there since the early 90's. I will do alot of scouting if you would like to come along some. [email protected]

LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-06 AT 11:13PM (MST)[p]A buddy of mine was there every day of archery season last year and went home empty handed! He passed up some huge bulls, but nuthin went 380! They are there obviously, but like mentioned above, you better know what you are looking for and be willing to eat your tag at the end of the season!

HS

This is one of MANY he passed up....Why he passed it up.. He's not too sure! :0)

Only know him through my friend who took the pic of that bull...Also know him from the cover of Eastmans a couple years ago! If we are talking about the same Gary...Wilson.

Same Guy, I thought that bull looked familiar. Gary sent me as picture about a week ago. That one would be pretty hard to pass up. Thanks for the photo.
